Xiaomi YU7 electric SUV with up to 835km range official

Xiaomi EV has officially introduced its first SUV, the Xiaomi YU7. This mid-to-large electric vehicle focuses on performance and comfort and follows last year’s announcement.

Xiaomi YU7

Pronounced “YU,” referencing the Chinese phrase for “riding the wind,” the Xiaomi YU7 is the brand’s second electric vehicle. It is specifically designed as an SUV and differs from the SU7 sedan.

Exterior Design

The YU7’s dimensions are 4999 mm long, 1996 mm wide, and 1600 mm tall, with a 3000 mm wheelbase. Its design ratios include a 3:1 wheel-to-body, 2.1:1 wheel-to-height, and 1.25:1 width-to-height, giving it a sleek, sporty appearance.

Highlights include:

  • A 3.11 square meter aluminum hood, the largest in mass-produced cars, which integrates a 141-liter front trunk with eight ways to open.
  • Optional 275 mm wide rear tires for a sportier look.
  • New “waterdrop” shaped headlights with hollow air channels connected to hood vents, delivering ultra-wide 180° illumination.
  • Halo taillights use ultra-red light (>632 nm) for better visibility at night and feature downward-angled corners.
  • Electric flush door handles that extend when approached (using an “Auto-Flush” system) and retract after entry to reduce wind resistance.

The aerodynamic design achieves a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.245, thanks to 10 air channels, 19 optimized vents, hollowed spoilers, an active grille with 100 adjustable louvers, and an unibody hood, improving the CLTC driving range by 59 km.

Available Colors

The YU7 offers three paint finishes:

  • Emerald Green: Dual-layer paint with fine aluminum flakes (one-fifth the thickness of human hair) and a pearl coating, replicating the depth of Colombian emeralds.
  • Titanium Silver: Coarse aluminum flakes create high contrast to emphasize the SUV’s sporty design.
  • Lava Orange: A dual-coat finish that appears vibrant orange in backlight and metallic under direct sunlight.
Interior and Technology

Inside, the YU7 provides ample space, including:

  • 100 mm of headroom in front
  • 77 mm of rear headroom
  • 73 mm of rear legroom

Total storage of 1,970 liters, divided as:

  • 141-liter front trunk (fits a 24-inch suitcase)
  • 678-liter cargo area (expandable to 1,758 liters, fits three 24-inch suitcases)
  • 71 liters of compartments inside the cabin

The interior includes a 1.7 square meter panoramic sunroof, Nappa leather certified hypoallergenic by OEKO-TEX Class 1, and fully soft-touch surfaces. Front seats feature zero-gravity design with 10-point massage and a 12-layer structure, while rear seats can electrically adjust from 100° to 135°.

The HyperVision Panoramic Display projects a 1.1-meter wide image onto the windshield using triple Mini LED arrays and Panoramic Curved Projection Technology. Specifications include:

  • 108 pixels per degree resolution
  • 1,200 nits brightness
  • Less than 1% reflectance and distortion
  • Supports navigation and passenger entertainment with customizable modules such as instruments, media, time, weather, and maps
  • Remote control for car functions and media
  • Sports a 16.1-inch center screen plus two rear passenger displays.
Performance

The YU7 is powered by the HyperEngine V6s Plus, delivering a maximum output of 690 PS (508 kW) and 528 N·m of torque, capable of reaching up to 22,000 rpm. This setup allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds, with a top speed of 253 km/h. Additionally, the integration of segmented magnetic steel technology enhances motor efficiency, extending the CLTC driving range by 4 kilometers.

The suspension setup includes:

  • Front double wishbone
  • Rear five-link
  • Dual-chamber air springs with 75 mm adjustable height (max 222 mm clearance) and 40% stiffness variation
  • Continuous damper control with 10% more adjustment range than the SU7 Max

Braking is handled by Brembo four-piston calipers, allowing a stopping distance of 33.9 meters from 100 km/h. The turning radius is 5.7 meters.

Battery and Driving Range

The YU7 is available in three battery versions:

  • Standard model: 96.3 kWh battery providing an 835 km CLTC range, the longest among SUVs under 100 kWh
  • Pro model: 96.3 kWh battery with four-wheel drive and a 760 km range
  • Max model: 101.7 kWh battery, four-wheel drive, and a 770 km range

Charging technology uses an 800V silicon carbide platform (897V peak) supporting 5.2C charging speeds, enabling charging from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes, or adding 620 km range within 15 minutes.

Safety Features

Built on the Modena Platform, the body uses a steel-aluminum hybrid structure with ultra-high-strength steel rated at 2200 MPa. This steel was developed via over 24 million AI simulations and 4,000 tests.

Strength improvements include:

  • Front door beams up by 52.4%
  • Rear door beams up by 37.6%
  • A-pillar strength up by 35%
  • B-pillar strength up by 70.5%

Composed of 90.2% high-strength steel and aluminum, the body reaches 47,610 N·m/deg torsional rigidity. Additional safety elements:

  • 659 mm front crumple zone
  • 1500 MPa underbody crossbeam
  • Bulletproof battery coating 10 times stronger than PVC
  • Passed over 50 C-NCAP and C-IASI crash tests, including rear collisions up to 90 km/h
Intelligent Control Platform

The YU7 uses a “Four-in-One Domain Control Module” combining assisted driving, cockpit, vehicle control, and telematics into a single unit. This design reduces the number of controllers by 75%, saves 57% space, and cuts weight by 47% (down to 3.6 kg from 6.85 kg). It extends driving range by 16 km and reduces power consumption in Sentinel Mode by 40%.

The cockpit runs on a 4 nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip for fast boot and app launching, with OTA updates in just 15 minutes. Assisted driving is powered by the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor platform (700 TOPS, 4 nm, Blackwell architecture).

Connectivity features include:

  • Dual 5G
  • Wi-Fi 7
  • Ultra-wideband (UWB) keys
  • Three Bluetooth modules
  • An 83% faster dual Wi-Fi hotspot

The electronic/electrical architecture passes rigorous AEC-Q104 testing covering 17 environmental categories and 280 scenarios.

Assisted Driving System

Standard in all variants, the assisted driving package includes:

  • A Thor processing chip
  • One LiDAR with 200 m range (55% less power consumption)
  • One 4D millimeter-wave radar (detects vehicles up to 200 m and pedestrians up to 100 m)
  • Eleven cameras with anti-glare ALD coating
  • Twelve ultrasonic radars enhancing safety during poor visibility
Driver Safety Training

Xiaomi provides a comprehensive advanced driving course available for RMB 1,999. The course covers:

  • Straight-line acceleration and braking techniques
