Nothing Phone (2) will be powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1: Carl Pei

After speculations, Nothing’s founder Carl Pei just confirmed that the Nothing Phone (2) will be powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, after confirming the 8 series chip for the phone back in March at the MWC.

Carl Pei also said that the phone will be 2x faster app opening speed compared to the Phone (1) powered by Snapdragon 778G+ and will also see 80% overall performance improvement.

However, he did not say if the Phone (2) will use the under clocked version of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with prime core clock speed of 3GHz compared to 3.2GHz in the standard 8+ Gen 1 used in most phone, as shown in the benchmarks.

The under clocked version is being used in the latest POCO F5 Pro that still uses the 4nm process technology by TSMC, but doesn’t get a boost in the CPU clock speed.

Nothing already confirmed that it will introduce the Nothing Phone 2 smartphone in British Summer, which is between June and August. Similar to other Nothing devices, it will be sold on Flipkart in India.

Regarding the choice of opting for Snapdragon 8 series compared to 7 series, Carl Pei said:

Beyond performance: Opting for a Snapdragon 8 Series rather than 7 Series brings significant improvements across the board including battery life, network connectivity, and camera capabilities, among others. It’s not just about speed – it’s about the complete package.
