vivo X Fold2 and X Flip with 120Hz AMOLED foldable displays, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 / 8+ Gen 1 SoCs announced


vivo just announced the X Fold2, the company’s latest foldable phone and the X Flip, its first flip phone at an event in China, as it had promised. Both these have 120Hz AMOLED foldable displays and are powered by Snapdragon 8 series SoCs.

vivo X Fold2 – Display

The X Fold2 features world’s first 8.03″ 2K+ internal and 6.53″ 1080p external E6 AMOLED LTPO screens with 120Hz refresh rate. The 8.03-inch super large screen when unfolded. The screen has SCHOTT UTG glass cover and supports 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner on the inside and outside.

Design

It also has a new ultra-durable and lightweight hinge uses vivo’s self-developed FS54 aviation-grade material, which has higher strength and lighter weight, and has passed the Rheinland 40W fold-free worry-free test. The water drop hinge’s diameter is now 5mm compared to 4.6mm in the X Fold and X Fold+.

Compared with the previous generation, the thickness and weight have been reduced by 2mm and 33g, respectively. The hinge parts of X Fold2 is reduced by 83 compared with the previous generation, and the hinge weight is reduced by 30%.

The folding life of the new machine is 33% higher than that of the previous generation, and can achieve a folding life of 400,000 times, said the company.

Performance

It is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC with 12GB of RAM, and the company says that it has scored 1.348 million points on AnTuTu. The phone has industry’s exclusive new-generation SPU security chip, which can provide comprehensive security and privacy protection. The X Fold2 has, 2448 mm² industry’s largest VC liquid cooling heat dissipation area, the company added.

Camera

It has a 50MP rear cameras with VCS bionic spectrum technology developed by vivo and Sony that reduces noise by 20%, and increases color reproduction ability by 15%. There is Zeiss T* coating for the lens.

There is vivo’s self-developed imaging chip V2. When shooting night scenes, the brightness is significantly increased, and uses extreme noise reduction, so the highlights are not exposed, and the dark parts have details, according to vivo.

The phone packs a 4800mAh battery, and it is the world’s first foldable phone to feature 120W wired fast charging that can charge up to 100% in 26 minutes, and the phone also comes with 50W wireless charging.

vivo X Flip

The X Flip has a 6.74-inch foldable 120Hz AMOLED screen with UTG glass an invisible crease and a 3-inch large external screen, with a mirror application opening features, so several apps can also be opened on the external screen without opening the inner screen.

The soft light makeup mirror function promises the experience of using a physical makeup box, and turns into a real “makeup box” in seconds. The upper half of the screen is as clear as a mirror, and the lower half of the screen has a variety of Makeup function.

It has world’s first TUV Rhineland certification that can achieve a folding life of 500,000 times. The phone is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC with 12GB of RAM, has a 50MP rear camera, and packs a 4400mAh battery with 44W fast charging.

The vivo X Fold2 comes in Shadow Black, China Red and Azure Blue colours and is priced at 8999 yuan (US$ 1380 / Rs. 1,07,455 approx.) for 12GB+256GB and 9999 yuan (US$ 1,455 / Rs. 1,19,400 approx.) for 12GB+512GB models.

The vivo X Flip comes in Diamond Black, Purple and Silk Gold colours and is priced at 5999 yuan (US$ 872 / Rs. 71,640 approx.) for 12GB+256GB and 6699 yuan (US$ 974 / Rs. 80,000 approx.) for 12GB+512GB models. These are available to order and will go on sale in China from April 28th.
