Microsoft introduces Bing image creator powered by ChatGPT

Last month, Microsoft launched AI-powered Bing and Microsoft Edge. Now, they’re adding Bing Image Creator, updated Knowledge Cards, and new AI-powered visual Stories to the preview. Microsoft 365 Copilot, an AI assistant for workplace efficiency, was also recently introduced.

Bing Image Creator

Microsoft’s Bing has added new features to its search engine, including an AI-powered visual Stories and updated Knowledge Cards. The Bing Image Creator is a new tool that uses an advanced version of the DALL∙E model from OpenAI, allowing users to create an image by using their own words to describe it.

This tool makes it easier to generate both written and visual content in one place, directly from within chat. With Bing’s latest updates, users can now access a more comprehensive and intuitive search experience.

Bing Image Creator fully integrated into the Bing chat

Microsoft’s Yusuf Mehdi announced that Bing Image Creator will be integrated into the Bing chat experience for those in the preview. With the ability to type in a description of an image, add context like location or activity, and select an art style, Image Creator acts as a creative copilot, generating an image from your imagination.

Simply prompt the chat with “draw an image” or “create an image” and use the generated visuals for any purpose, from newsletters to home decor inspiration.

Microsoft announced that Bing Image Creator preview will now be accessible on Microsoft Edge. This makes Edge the first and only browser that has an integrated AI-powered image generator. To use Bing Image Creator in Edge, click the icon in the sidebar or invoke it from Bing chat.

Microsoft’s Responsible AI Principles

Microsoft’s teams follow our Responsible AI principles and standards to ensure the development and deployment of AI systems responsibly. To prevent misuse of the Image Creator, we have partnered with OpenAI and incorporated their safeguards and additional protections. Our system also includes controls that limit the generation of harmful images. When a potentially harmful prompt is detected, the system blocks it and warns the user.

Microsoft Uses AI for Image Creation

Microsoft has announced that they will use artificial intelligence (AI) for creating images. To ensure transparency, the company will include a modified Bing icon in the bottom left corner of each image generated by its Image Creator tool. The tech giant also revealed that it will continue to work closely with OpenAI to build, test, and review mitigations for its integrations.

Bing Introduces Stories and Knowledge Cards 2.0

Bing is now offering Stories and Knowledge Cards 2.0 to all its users, in response to the growing demand for more visual search experiences.

  • Stories provide a more engaging way to search and interact with content, offering images and short videos.

  • Knowledge Cards 2.0 is an AI-powered infographic-inspired experience that provides fun facts and key information at a glance. It has been updated to include interactive, dynamic content like charts, graphs, timelines, visual stories and more.

With these updates, Bing aims to deliver more immersive experiences that make finding answers and exploring the web more interesting, useful, and fun.

Availability

Bing Image Creator is now available to Bing preview users on both desktop and mobile. For those not in the new Bing preview, the preview experience of Image Creator is now available at bing.com/create for Bing users worldwide in English. More language support will be added soon.

Edge users can also access Image Creator from the Image Creator icon in the sidebar on both desktop and mobile starting today. The integration of Image Creator into Edge from the new Bing button in chat mode is also coming soon.
