OPPO Reno8 Unboxing and First Impressions


OPPO launched the Reno8 smartphone in India earlier this week as the successor to last year’s Reno7. It has the same screen and rear camera, but it has Dimensity 1300 SoC and comes with support for 80W fast charging. We got to check out the smartphone. Here are our first impressions.

The phone has a 6.4-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen which a centre punch-hole. Since it has up to 600 nits brightness, the screen is bright even outdoors, and the 97% NTSC, 95% DCI-P3 wide color gamut offers vibrant colours. It has 90Hz refresh rate screen with up to 180Hz touch sampling rate.

Inside the tiny punch-hole, there is a 32-megapixel camera with Sony IMX709 sensor. The earpiece grill is present on the top edge.

The phone features an in-display fingerprint scanner, but the bottom bezel is not as sleek as the Reno8 Pro.

It is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC compared to Dimensity 900 in the predecessor. The phone has 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage. The OPPO’s Super-Conductive VC Liquid Cooling System and the total cooling area is increased by 16.8% compared to the predecessor.

Coming to the button placements and ports, the power button is present on the right side, the volume rockers are present on the left. The dual SIM slot, primary microphone, USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker grill are present on the bottom. The secondary microphone is on the top. The phone doesn’t have an expandable storage. This has a plastic frame, so you don’t see the antenna bands.

Even though the phone doesn’t have MariSilicon X self-developed NPU present in the Pro version, it offers AI-enhanced imaging features such as Ultra Night Video, Night Portrait and Bokeh Flare video.

The phone has a streamlined unibody design, but it doesn’t have a glass back like the Pro. By integrating the camera module and the back cover, Reno8 appears seamless and smooth. It also prevents dust from accumulating around the camera area.

The phone packs a 4,500mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC wired fast charging that can charge up to 50% in 11 minutes and 100% in 28 minutes. It also TUV Rhineland fast charging certification for safety. The OPPO’s Battery Health Engine (BHE) technology lets the phone perform at its peak for four years straight without a fall in battery health and at the same high safety levels, said the company.

The OPPO Reno8 is priced at Rs. 29,999 and will be available from Flipkart, OPPO India online store and offline stores starting from July 25th. There are bank offers, No Cost EMI, and OPPO upgrade offer.
