Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro display details surface

Google confirmed earlier this month that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones would be available later this fall. The company has also confirmed the phones’ design in images and stated that they will use the next-generation Tensor SoC, and it will run Android 13 out of the box. A new leak from 9to5Google reveals the details about the screens these two smartphones will have.

This leak originates from the Android Open Source Project, where 9to5Google discovered that Google has produced two new display drivers, one labelled C10 and the other labelled P10. Cheetah (thus the “C”) is the Pixel 7’s codename, whereas Panther is the Pixel 7 Pro’s (hence, “P”). 

According to the report, the Pixel 7 series’ display specifications are nearly identical to their predecessors. The Pixel 7 is said to have a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, indicating a Full HD+ display, and a refresh rate of 90 Hz, whereas the Pixel 7 Pro’s screen will have a resolution of 3120×1440 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. 

Apart from these similarities to the Pixel 6 Series, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will have the exact identical Samsung-made display panels as their predecessors, with model numbers S6E3FC3 and S6E3HC3, respectively, according to the code.

There’s also an S6E3HC4, which may be a newer iteration of the Pixel 6 Pro’s display that Google is working on supporting for the Pixel 7 Pro. We can only hope for improvements in quality, brightness, battery consumption, or any combination of these. Since resolution and refresh rate will remain the same, we can only hope for improvements in these mentioned areas.

The Pixel 7’s display panel is 1mm narrower and 2mm shorter than the Pixel 6’s to accommodate the lower size of the Pixel 7. Pixel 7 Pro’s screen is the same size as the Pixel 6 Pro’s, and its dimensions are the same as well.

This suggests that we should have low expectations for the Pixel 7 series’ display. More information about these upcoming devices should become available in the coming days.
