Samsung Galaxy Watch4 finally gets Google Assistant support

Even though the Galaxy Watch4 series runs Wear OS, it doesn’t have one of Wear OS’s best features: Google Assistant. Instead, users have to use Samsung’s Bixby assistant.

As it turned out, the feature wasn’t ready yet, so Samsung outsmarted us with a Google Assistant Watch4 ad that was immediately withdrawn. It was announced at Google I/O that it would eventually be released “this summer,” and the season officially begins today.

The Galaxy Watch4 series is now officially supported by Google Assistant in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, but not in India.

In the Google Play Store, users will be able to download Google Assistant and use it to perform all of the usual Assistant functions, including asking questions, setting alarms and timers, checking the weather, and more via Galaxy Watch4 smartwatches.

According to the Samsung’s official announcement,

Starting today, Galaxy Watch4 users will also be able to download Google Assistant on their devices gaining access to fast, more natural voice interactions, quick answers to questions and on-the-go help. With access to both Bixby and Google Assistant, consumers will have access to more advanced voice assistant functionality right from their wrists.
