Vi hikes prepaid tariffs after Airtel; plans now start from Rs. 99

After Airtel’s announcement yesterday, Vodafone Idea (VI) has revised its  tariff plans for prepaid users in India. Vi’s plans are almost the same as Airtel, so the the base plan now starts at Rs. 99, a 25% hike and the other plans have seen a hike of about 20%. The base plan doesn’t offer SMS, so you need to spend at least Rs. 179 to get outgoing SMS.

Vi says that the tariff plans will allow the company to continue improving India’s Fastest Mobile Network, verified by Ookla, the global leader in fixed broadband and mobile network testing applications. It also said that Vi remains committed to play its role in accelerating the realization of the Digital India vision of the government.

The new pre-paid plans will come into effect starting from November 25th, a day before the rival Airtel’s new pre-paid trariff kick in. Reliance Jio is yet to announce a price hike.
