OnePlus Nord CE 5G Unboxing and First Impressions


OnePlus launched Nord CE 5G, the company’s latest Nord series phone, and its most affordable 5G phone in India last week. This retains the same FHD+ Fluid AMOLED 90Hz screen from the original Nord, brings back the 3.5mm audio jack, but it doesn’t have a dual front camera setup or an alert slider.

OnePlus says that the CE in the new Nord stands for ‘Core Edition’ which will retain the core features from the Nord to create a great everyday phone that offers a fast and smooth experience at an even more affordable price. It features a 6.43-inch (1080 x 2400 pixels) Full HD+ 410 ppi 20:9 Fluid AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the Nord CE 5G is powered by the Qualcom Snapdragon 750G 5G Mobile Platform compared to Snapdragon 768G in the Nord. In terms of connectivity options, the Nord  CE 5G supports 5G SA/NSA with N78 band, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.1, GPS/GLONASS/Galileo/Beidou/A-GPS/NaVIC and NFC.

There is a single 16MP front camera with Sony IMX471 sensor inside the tiny punch-hole. There is an in-display fingerprint scanner which is quick to unlock the phone. The phone runs Android 11 with OxygenOS 11 on top.

Coming to button placements, the power button is present on the right. Dual SIM slot and the volume rockers are present on the left. The secondary microphone is present on the top. The 3.5mm audio jack, primary microphone, USB Type-C port and the loudspeaker grill are present on the bottom.

The phone has triple rear cameras that includes a 64MP main camera with f/1.79 aperture, EIS, 8MP 119° ultra-wide camera with f/2.25 aperture and a 2MP mono camera with f/2.4 aperture. It supports 4K video recording at 30fps. Check out some camera samples.

Even though the phone has a glossy frame, the back of the phone has a smooth matte finish which offers a good grip and doesn’t attract fingerprints. It has a 7.9mm thick and weighs 170 grams, making it slimmer and lighter than the original Nord, yet it packs a bigger 4500mAh battery. The phone has Warp Charge 30T Plus fast charging that can charge the phone from 0% to 70% in 30 minutes.

The phone bundles a clear case in the box, but it also sells a Bumper Case separately in Blue, Purple and Black colours priced at Rs. 790. This offers a complete protection, has grainy matte finish and is made of eco-friendly and 100% compostable plant-based biopolymer.

The OnePlus Nord CE 5G comes in Blue Void, Charcoal Ink and Silver Ray, colours, is priced at Rs. 22,999 for the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version, 8GB RAM with 128GB storage version costs Rs. 24,999 and the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage version is priced at Rs. 27,999. It will be available from  Amazon.in and OnePlus.in  starting from June 16th.
