Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus Mobile Platform with up to 3GHz clock speed surfaces in benchmark

Qualcomm is said to be gearing up to launch the Snapdragon 888 Plus Mobile Platform, an upgrade to the Snapdragon 888 that was introduced back in December last year. Now that Snapdragon 888 Plus reference device has surfaced in Geekbench listing since it shows 6GB of RAM. It runs Android 11.

This reveals Prime CPU core clocked at up to 3.0 GHz while retaining 3 x Performance CPUs at up to 2.42GHz and 4x Efficiency CPUs at up to 1.8GHz as the Snapdragon 888. The jump for the Snapdragon 865 to 865+ it was 2.84GHz to 3.1GHz, and for the Snapdragon 870 it jumped to 3.2 GHz. Looks like the Snapdragon 888 Plus will be a minor jump from 2.84GHz to 3.00GHz. The Adreno 660 GPU in the 888 is clocked at 840MHz, but the frequency for the 888 Plus is not known yet

A new interim SoC from Qualcomm before the next flagship SoC later this year is a good thing, but it is not clear the company will deal with the thermal issues complained by users of Snapdragon 888-powered smartphones. The new Snapdragon 888 Plus is expected to be introduced sometime in July, same as the 865 Plus launch last year.
