Google introduces Google News Showcase for news publications in India


Google has announced the launch of a new initiative in India called Google News Showcase for the Google News app. Through the initiative, Google is aiming to provide news organizations with a new way of interacting and engaging with readers in India.

Google News Showcase is a new online experience and licensing program, which will allow news organizations to curate high-quality news content and display them on the Google News app. The aim behind this initiative is to create a better connection between readers and news publications. These curated news content will appear as panels on both the Google’s News and Discover platforms.

Google will also paying participating news organizations to give readers access to a limited amount of paywalled content, with the hopes of encouraging readers to subscribe to that particular news publication.

At launch, Google News Showcase will show curated content from 30 news publishers including national, regional and local news organizations such as The Hindu Group, HT Digital Streams Ltd, Indian Express Group, ABP LIVE, India TV, NDTV, Zee News, Amar Ujala, Deccan Herald, Punjab Kesari, The Telegraph India, IANS (Indo Asian News Service) and ANI.

The feature will first rollout with support for content in English and Hindi languages. Google is planning to bring support for more Indian languages soon.
