OnePlus 7T Pro Review: Is it a worthy upgrade from OnePlus 7 Pro?

The smartphone market is crazy right now (2019) with back to back launches every week. The lifecycle of a smartphone (in case of upgrades) has drastically reduced from one year to mere months at present. Started with the OnePlus 3T series, OnePlus had made a tradition of launching two smartphones a year – a standard version and a “T” version till last year.

However, this year, the company has launched four new devices, and the renders of purported OnePlus 8 is already floating on the Internet. This year OnePlus launched OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro earlier this year. Keeping up with the tradition, the company launched the mid-cycle refresh dubbed as OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro.

Talking about the upgrade, the company has made some noteworthy changes to the OnePlus 7T by implementing a 90Hz Fluid AMOLED display, triple camera setup, processor bump, slight battery bump, and of course, the much talked Warp Charger 30T. If you are planning to buy OnePlus 7T, head on here to read our review.

What are the changes?

Coming to the OnePlus 7T Pro, it honestly looks like an unnecessary launch rather than saying upgrade. The difference between the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro is — Snapdragon 855+ (compared to Snapdragon 855), the addition of Macro mode in the same triple camera module, placement of laser autofocus, and a slight 85mAh bump in battery leaving us with 4085mAh (compared to 4000mAh) and of course shipped with Android 10.

Apart from the factors mentioned above, everything remains similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro right from the dimensions to its fantastic performance. Due to its similarities, we are not doing a stand-alone review of the OnePlus 7T Pro, but the changes and tweaks made in this device are mentioned below. For an in-depth review, you can check out here.

What are all improved in OnePlus 7T Pro?

Many raised concerns about the battery life of the OnePlus 7 Pro, including us, while using it in 90Hz. On average, we got around less than a day of battery life in 90Hz (QHD+) and a day of usage in 90Hz (FHD+) settings. With the 7T Pro, it has been addressed with an extra 85mAh battery, which gives us the right amount of boost to complete a day of usage.

Coming to OxygenOS, a lot of useful features has been added lately, including a Step counter, Launcher layout, Cloud service for the gallery, and other bug fixes. Talking about the camera, OnePlus has added dedicated Macro mode in the 7T series.

The camera of the OnePlus 7T Pro captures some flagship-level output, especially with its primary camera. The dynamic range has been improved with Auto HDR, the colors stay true to the subject, and the contrast is excellent. The Macro photography in the 7T Pro is impressive too. This latest Pro device from OnePlus performs up to the mark at night as well. With its dedicated Nightscape mode, the image comes out well with the right amount of brightness and details. Performance

The OnePlus 7T Pro is powered by the latest Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ 7nm Mobile Platform with 675MHz Adreno 640 GPU under the hood, same as the 7T. The read/write speed is more rapid, with UFS 3.0 storage. In our experience, we experienced zero lag, zero hitches, and it’s just pure speed and raw power. In technical terms, the Snapdragon 855+ mobile platform, boasting upgraded CPU speeds,15% faster graphics rendering, and multi-gigabit 4G connectivity. On a day-to-day usage, finding the difference between the Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon 855+ is just tough. Check out the synthetic benchmark scores below.

Gaming was also smooth, however the phone got heated quickly. Check out the gaming review below.

Who can upgrade?

Well, if you are a OnePlus 7 Pro user, worry not, your device is as good as the 7T Pro. Talking about the upgrading, if you are using OnePlus 6T or below (OnePlus users)/ Snapdragon 845 or below (general users), OnePlus 7T Pro is an excellent choice to proceed with. If you have OnePlus 7, it is wise to wait till the launch of OnePlus 8 series, which is expected by the end of Q1 2020.
