Asus Zenfone 5Z update adds Lift to Face unlock, EIS/OIS auto switch, improved gestures and more


ASUS launched its flagship Zenfone 5Z smartphone in India last month. The company pushed an update earlier this month that brought several new features including option to save images in RAW format, shoot Panorama pictures, turn EIS on or off, several camera improvements, WiFi stability improvements and bug fixes.

The company recently started rolling another update that bright Life to Face unlock that detects your face automatically without pressing the power button, support for Auto anti-flicker feature, and more. Check out the complete changelog below.

  • Lift to Face unlock
    • No need to press the power button to wake and face unlock
  • Gesture Controls incorporated
  • New Camera Functionalities
  • Support Auto anti-flicker feature (Phone will auto detect electricity frequency based on lighting condition and switch the frequency setting between 50 Hz and 60 Hz to prevent flickering)
  • Support EIS feature in FHD@60FPS & 18:9@30FPS
  • Support EIS/OIS auto switch feature during video recording (The Camera will switch to either OIS or EIS to take super smooth videos depending on conditions)
  • Support over heat detection in video recording mode (Mainly useful while recording)
  • Support 3 Dimensional Noise Reduction feature also in PRO mode

Camera Improvements

  • Improve Manual White Balance function in PRO mode
  • Selfie Camera improvements

Since the update is rolled out in batches, it  may take some days for you to receive the update. You can check for System updates in[Settings] >[System] to check if there is new firmware available.
