Weekly Roundup – Honor 8 Pro, Band 3, Motorola Earbuds, Meizu A5 and more

This week Huawei’s Honor launched Honor 8 Pro in India, Nubia launched N2 and M2 smartphones, Motorola launched Earbuds Metal and Earbuds Sports in-ear earphones, Vivo announced X9 and X9 plus smartphones. Let’s take a look at all the announcements and launches that took place this week.

Huawei’s Honor brand launched its flagship Honor 8 Pro smartphone in India. It packs a 5.7-inch Quad HD 2.5D curved glass display, is powered by an Octa-Core Kirin 960 processor with 6GB of RAM and runs Android 7.0 (Nougat) with EMUI 5.1 on top.  It has dual 12-megapixel rear cameras, one with monochrome and other with color sensor to capture crisper, more detailed photos and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Honor 8 Pro comes in Navy Blue and Midnight Black colors, is priced at Rs. 29,999 and will available exclusively from Amazon.in starting July 10th at 6PM for Prime users during Prime Day sale along with HDFC cash back offer. Open sale on Amazon will begin July 13th. It also comes with 45GB free data for Vodafone customers for 5 months.

Nubia M2

Nubia launched M2 smartphone in India that packs a dual 13-megapixel rear cameras with 0.1 second PDAF and Contrast Hybrid Focus along with a 16-megapixel front camera. It has a 5.5-inch 1080 AMOLED 2.5D curved glass screen, is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 Mobile Platform and has a fingerprint sensor on the front, but it still runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

The Nubia M2 comes in Champagne Gold and Black Gold colors and is priced at Rs. 22,999 and will be available exclusively on Amazon.in starting from July 10, 2017 during Amazon Prime Day sales.

Nubia N2

Nubia launched the Nubia N2 smartphone in India. It packs 5000mAh battery that promises up to 3.2 days of battery life with daily use, has 4GB of RAM and comes with a 7.9mm slim aerospace-grade aluminum body, but it still runs on Android Marshmallow OS. It has a 5.5-inch HD AMOLED 2.5D curved glass display, fingerprint sensor on the front, 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF for 0.2 second quick focus and has a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. It also has 4G connectivity with 4G VoLTE.

The Nubia N2 comes in Champagne Gold and Black Gold colors, is priced at Rs. 15,999 and is available exclusively from Amazon.in.

Motorola Earbuds Sports

Shyam Telecom has launched two Motorola earbuds – Motorola Earbuds Metal and Motorola Earbuds Sports in India. Both these have a 10mm neodymium driver that promises clear audio with deep bass and have IP54 ratings for water resistance. The earbuds offer noise isolation with comfortable in-ear design. It comes in Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, Matte Black color options.

The Motorola Earbuds Metal and Earbuds Sports are priced at Rs. 999 (MOP), each and will be available through Mobile Retail Outlets, Modern Trade Chains and eCommerce Portals.

Samsung launched the Orchid Gray color variant for the phone in India. We had unboxed and even reviewed the Orchid Gray version of the Galaxy S8 recently. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are priced at Rs. 57,900 and Rs. 64,900, respectively and comes with free Convertible Wireless Charger worth Rs. 4,499 and Rs. 3,000 cashback on HDFC credit card. It will be available for pre-order exclusively from today on Flipkart and Samsung Shop till July 11th, and goes on sale from July 12th.

RED Hydrogen

RED, popular for its high-end cameras announced its entry into phone market with the RED HYDROGEN ONE Android smartphone that will have world’s first holgraphic display. This uses nanotechnology so it seamlessly switches between traditional 2D content, holographic multi-view content, 3D content and interactive games. The teaser image shows 3.5mm audio jack and USB Type-C port along with connector pins for modules. It has proprietary H3O algorithm that converts stereo sound into expansive multi-dimensional audio, something like 5.1 on headphones.

The RED HYDROGEN ONE starts at $1,195 (Rs. 77,340 approx.) for aluminium version and the titanium version costs $1,595 (Rs. 1,03,235 approx.) for a limited time. It is now available for pre-order and is expected to ship sometime in Q1 2018.

Asus ZenFone 4 Max

Asus announced the ZenFone 4 Max that packs a 5.5-inch 1080p 2.5D curved glass display, comes in Snapdragon 425 or Snapdragon 430 versions and runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with Zen UI on top. It has 13-megapixel rear camera with a 80-degree lens, PDAF for quick focus in 0.03 seconds and a secondary camera with a 120-degree wide-angle lens for capturing landscape and group shots.

ZTE Blade V7 Plus

ZTE announced Blade V7 Plus, its latest smartphone in the Blade series. It has a 5.2-inch 1080p display, is powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek MT6753 SoC, but it still runs on Android 6.0. It has an unibody metal design and has a fingerprint sensor on the back that can unlock the phone in 0.3 seconds.

Honor Band 3

Huawei’s Honor brand launched the Honor Band 3, its latest fitness and sleep tracking band in India. It has a 0.91-inch OLED display, comes with continuous heart rate tracking and is also water resistant up to 50 meters. It syncs with Android and iOS devices to show Caller ID, option to reject call and vibrations for Facebook, Twitter, messages, emails, calendar alerts, and more when connected over Bluetooth. The Honor Band 3 comes in Dynamic Orange, Classic Navy Blue and Carbon Black colors and will go on sale in India exclusively on Amazon.in later this month. 

Vivo X9s and X9s Plus

Vivo announced X9s and X9s Plus, the company’s flagship smartphones in the ‘X series’ in China. Both the phones have a 20-megapixel front-facing camera along with a 5-megapixel camera for capturing depth information when shooting selfies. The company says that you can adjust f/0.95 to f/16 equivalent aperture. Both the phones have a 16-megapixel front camera. The X9s Plus also has RK1608 DSP for processing RAW captures.

Google Android One SHARP X1

Google recently introduced SHARP X1, its latest top-end Android One smartphone in Japan. It has a 5.3-inch 1080p IGZO display, is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 435 Mobile Platform and runs on Android 7.1 (Nougat). It has a 3,900 mAh battery that promises up to 4 days of battery life. It has a Waterproof and dustproof body, has support for Android Pay and also has a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button.

LG G Pad IV 8.0 FHD LTE

LG has announced G Pad IV 8.0 FHD LTE in Korea. It has a 8-inch WXGA display, is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 435 Mobile Platform and runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat). It has a 5-megapixel rear and front camera.

Meizu A5

Meizu announced A5, its latest budget smartphone in the ‘A Series’ in China. It has a 5-inch HD display, is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6737 SoC, runs on Flyme OS based on Android Marshmallow, has an 8-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
