Nokia 6 Unboxing and First Impressions

HMD Global announced Nokia 6 smartphone earlier this year in China as the first Nokia smartphone after it was granted exclusive global license to sell Nokia phones. At the MWC 2017 Nokia confirmed that the smartphone will be available globally starting in Q2 2017. We even went hands-on with the smartphone at the MWC. The Nokia 6 has a 5.5-inch 1080p 2.5D curved glass display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display is bright and vibrant. It has a 8-megapixel camera on the front with f/2.0 aperture, 84˚ wide-angle lens and 1.12um pixel size. There is also a fingerprint sensor embedded into the home button. The Chinese version we have runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat) but the global version will run Android 7.1 out of the box.

The phone is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 430 processor and has 4GB of RAM. There is a 3.5mm audio jack on the top. It has dual speakers, one on the front, embedded into the earpiece and the other on the bottom. It also has dedicated TFA9891 amplifier that promises clear and loud sound with deep bass and also has Dolby Atmos.

On the bottom there is a primary microphone and micro USB port. On the right there is a power button along with volume rockers. The SIM slot is present on the left side. You can see the antenna bands on the top and the bottom.

It has a hybrid dual SIM slot with a nano SIM and a nano SIM or microSD support.

On the back there is a 16-megapixel camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and 1.0um sensor. You also find a tiny secondary microphone hole above the camera module.

The phone has a unibody metal design and has a smooth finish on the back. It packs a 3000mAh built-in battery.

The Nokia 6 comes is priced at 229 Euros (US$ 241 / Rs. 16117 approx.) and the Special Edition in Arte Black color with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at 299 Euros (US$ 315 / Rs. 21,043 approx.). It will be available globally in Q2 2017, including India.

In an interview to FoneArena at the MWC 2017, Ajey Mehta, India VP at HMD Global said that the company plans to manufacture its latest phones through Foxconn in India from day one, so the phone should be priced cheaper.
