Driving license and vehicle registration details can now be accessed through DigiLocker app


Digilocker DL and VRC

Indian government launched DigiLocker app last year to safely store your documents and certificates, eSign which is similar to self-attestation) them and access them from DigiLocker Android app. Today it has added an option to upload your driving license and vehicle registration certificate, in partnership with Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This was announced by Telecom Minister, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad and was launched by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport.

This will be useful for people so that they can easily show their digital copy driving license and vehicle registration documents on their phone to traffic police, instead of carrying a physical copy. They can  easily do offline verification of RC/DL using QR Code.

You can easily sign up for DigiLocker with mobile number, sync your Aadhaar, upload documents, eSign them and share them.

It offers 1GB of storage space that lets you upload college certificates, voter id card, PAN card and more. DigiLocker currently has 21,26,332 registered users with 24,11,702 uploaded documents and has issued over 4,26,73,232 documents as on 1st September 2016.

Launching the service Telecom Minister, Shri Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad said:

The integration will bring a paradigm shift in the vision of paperless governance. It will serve to bring agility and efficiency to the entire process of issuance of driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates through IT enablement.

Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport, said:

This platform is a major step forward towards ensuring greater transparency and cutting down corruption and red-tapism. He said the move will benefit a large number of people by facilitating ease of access to the documents.
