Lava on Wednesday launched its latest mid-range 4G device V5 in India at Rs. 11,499. The smartphone is touted for its camera performance, and Lava will be selling it through offline and online channels across India.

Upfront, the Lava V5 packs a 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and pixel density of roughly 267ppi. The display appears nice with good brightness levels, but it is slightly glossy and attracts fingerprints / smudges.

The polycarbonate back of the Lava V5 has soft matte finish and hence doesn’t get smudged easily. Overall the smartphone feels premium and sturdy in hands.

The dual-SIM Lava V5 is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 SoC with ARM Mali-T720GPU and 3GB of RAM. It runs dated Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS-based Star OS UI 2.0 skinned on top, and Lava has promised that the phone will be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow via FOTA update in near future.

The internal storage is 16GB, but users will get about 10GB of free space. Further it supports microSD card expandability up to 32GB. We couldn’t really test the performance in that limited time with the device, but we will soon bring you the full review.

On camera front, Lava V5 packs a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED Flash, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, Samsung 3M2 ISOCELL Sensor and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with LED Flash, 84-degree wide-angle lens, f/2.2 aperture. We are yet to test the camera, so do check back for full review.

Above the display sits the 8-megapixel camera along with two sensors – proximity and ambient light sensor), earpiece grill and front selfie flash. The three capacitive touch buttons – Menu, Home and Back – sit below display.

The 3.5mm audio jack sits on the top edge, while the Micro-USB charging port is at the bottom. Left edge has nothing and the Right side features the volume rocker and power / lock key.
