UMi Iron Pro announced – Metal body, fingerprint sensor and iris scanner for US$ 179

UMi has just announced a new smartphone called the Iron Pro which the company claims to be the world’s most secure smartphone. It costs just US$ 179 but comes with a lot of high end features and touches such as the metal body, fingerprint as well as iris scanner.

The smartphone has a 5.5″ 1080p display which works out to around 403 ppi. It has a monoblock design as it is made out of a single piece of aircraft grade aluminum. It has a waistline of 7.9mm and weighs 148 grams. The phone is powered by an octa-core Mediatek MT6753 processor and has 3GB of RAM as well.

The phone runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 out of the box and UMi supports a wide range of ROMs such as CyanogenMod and MIUI through their UMi Rootjoy feature. For security, there is a fingerprint sensor at the back which UMi says takes just 0.32 seconds to unlock the phone and an Iris scanner feature called Eyeprint ID which uses the veins in your eyes to recognise you.

The phone supports 2 nanoSIM cards as well as 4G LTE connectivity upto 150Mbps. There is 16GB of on-board space that can further be expanded upto 64GB using the hybrid nano-SIM slot. There is support for dual band Wi-Fi but only 802.11 a/b/g/n as ac standard isn’t supported. The primary camera is a 13 Megapixel unit with a Sony IMX 214 sensor and a maximum aperture of f2.0. It also has a dual LED flash and a front facing 8 Megapixel camera which too has its own LED flash. Other highlights of the smartphone include the 3100mAH battery, the headphone amplifier and the light strip at the bottom front for notifications.
