Nokia Lumia 630 Camera Samples

The Lumia 630 Dual SIM  from Nokia is one of the first devices to be launched with Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box, and of course, with a Dual SIM setup. It is a direct successor to the Lumia 620, but takes a different route in terms of the pricing strategy, moving closer to the Lumia 520 rather than the 620. Priced at Rs. 11,500, the device comes with a 5 megapixel camera, but without a LED flash or a secondary microphone to support it. Nokia have clearly gone for price conscious sourcing here, but will the performance beat our expectations? Here is our camera review that will answer this question, but skip past the video to find the full resolution samples.

As you saw from the video above, for the price, the Lumia 630 seems to take some decent snaps overall. We had taken photos in several conditions to show you how the performance is like, lets start with the daylight samples.

In Daylight, the only problem with the Lumia 630 camera is that it has a purple fringing problem where there are highlights, but the details are captured well. Arguably, the photos were not taken in perfectly lit conditions as some photos were literally taken in overcast conditions, which is harder for phones, but you get the idea in terms of detail and resolution. Vegetation is always hard to cameras to capture, and details always get lost here due to lack of proper processing, but the Lumia 630 holds its ground well. Now lets move on macro shots.

As you can see from some of the samples above, wherever there is adequate light, the shots turn out with excellent detail for the price, but when it comes to low light, it falters poorly. This is evident in the low light samples below –

Low light

The low light images are bad indeed, but at this price range this is pretty much expected out of the box. While Nokia could try making it better with software tricks, the end result would still suck purely due to the lack of proper hardware. The overblown purple fringed highlights indicate that Nokia have gone for a cheap lens and sensor setup, which can excel in controlled lighting or anywhere except the bright sun, like for example taking pictures of people in apt lighting, but will falter elsewhere and in lowlight.

And finally, here is the 720p video sample, which has typically decent image quality, but the audio recording was pretty good, watch –

This is our verdict for the camera, but you have the full resolution samples up there, what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below, and except the full review of this device real soon on our blog.
