Samsung plans to invest Rs. 500 crores to ramp up mobile production in India


Samsung plans to invest Rs. 500 crores to increase the mobile phone production, according to a recent report from PTI. Samsung has been launching several Android smartphone in India at varying price range. The company launched the flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4 recently. These were reports that Samsung is prepping their India plant to manufacture the Galaxy S4. Samsung’s Nokia facility manufactures 3.5 to 4 crore phones annually including high-end smartphones. Samsung has launched range of smartphones in India that are priced between Rs. 5240 and  Rs. 40,300.

“Samsung is working to invest Rs 500 crore in its mobile production facility in India. It had approached Government in this regard to take benefit of policy announcements and other incentives. The investment proposals have been cleared at Department of Electronics and IT (DEITY) level”  said a report from PTI.  Samsung spokesperson confirmed to PTI that they are strengthening their manufacturing presence to balance the growing needs in India, but they did not reveal anything about the investment in the mobile manufacturing sector yet.

Samsung grabbed the No: 1 spot as the leading mobile phone manufacturer in India according to a recent report from IDC. It also revealed that Samsung has 16% market share in India. Looks like Samsung is keen on improving the market share in India with the investment in the manufacturing sector.
