Sony Xperia Tablet S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update starts rolling out


Sony Xperia Tablet S Android 4.1.1

Sony has started rolling out the the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) update for the Xperia Tablet S. The Xperia Tablet S was announced in August 2012 running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Sony confirmed Jelly Bean update for range of 2012 Xperia devices back in October, but it did not include tablets. Sony Xperia T and Xperia V got the Jelly Bean update back in February, and the Xperia J got the update last month. 

The Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update for the Xperia Tablet S brings

  • WALKMAN®, Album and Movies now supports the DLNA Controller function (3Box function)
  • Movies app now Supports the capability to play closed captioned video content distributed from Video Unlimited
  • Album app has  improved User Interface (Adopts UI design of the same dashboard concept as WALKMAN and Movies apps.)
  • Camera (User Interface improvement)
  • Scrapbook Adds the Map clipping feature Clip widget
  • Browser (Small Apps) and support for bookmark
  • On-screen keyboard (Supports the new Portuguese orthographic)
  • New TV SideView application

The over-the-air (OTA) update is about 412 MB. It would be available Over the Air (OTA) (depending on the regions and carriers) and via PC Companion on Windows/ Bridge for Mac. It would release first in United States, Canada, Latin America Region, Japan and other parts of Europe. The availability might vary across different carriers and countries.
