Apple iPad vs Samsung Galaxy Tab Comparison Pics

apple ipad vs samsung galaxy tab indiaWe had the chance to compare the Apple iPad with the Samsung Galaxy Tab. While the iPad has a metallic body , the Galaxy Tab has a plastic one. We found it easier to grip and type on the Galaxy Tab but found the large display on the iPad more fun to use. The iPad is heavier at 730g ( WiFi+3G version ) compared to the Tab at 385g.The iPad has a 9.7 inch (1024x768px) LED Blacklit display with IPS technology while the Tab has a 7 inch ( 1024x600px) TFT Display.

Thickness – iPad  13.4mm vs Galaxy Tab 11.98mm. The iPad appears thinner due to the tapering but its thicker than the Tab.

The Galaxy Tab is very portable indeed but Android 2.2 seems more like a phone UI rather than a tablet UI. What do you think ?

    For the record, all LCD’s are based on TFT ( that includes the much hyped IPS display on Apple’s products).

    Thin Film Transistor is the layer right after the backlight (usually LED or CCFL) but before the liquid crystal layer.

    IPS, PVA and AFFS are acronyms for technologies inside the liquid crystals themselves.

    All have pluses and minuses. However, so far AFFS is the most modern in terms of technology.

    AFFS LCD is what is inside the Galaxy Tab. It’s a feature that isnt much touted by Samsung, surprisingly, but you can easily tell the difference from looking at the two displays.

    The Galaxy Tab also has an LED backlighted display, again, something that Samsung doesnt really advertise that much.

    Perhaps they are confident about their display technology enough to not boast like Apple does. :D

    Look at all that wasted space on the icon menu on the iPad. Just look at those HUGE gaps. You could fill an entire row of icons in that space.

    Such efficient use of space, eh Apple?

    Primitive tablet OS, high price, small screen, plastic body and not many tablet apps vs. Fully developed tablet OS, lower price, large screen, solid aluminum unibody and great collection of tablet specific apps.

    Does the galaxy really stand a chance against the iPad? After using iPad for tha last few months I would say 7″ is too less for a tablet. The phones as such are coming in 4″ flavors these days. Have seen some low quality 7″ android tablet. They just look like a blown up version of android phones. No different unlike the iPad. Once you start using the iPad u will see loads of differences compared to iphone.

    I seriously hope android 3.0 to feature a more exclusive tablet version as well.. also a separate android sdk for tablet OS.. Else the android tablets will face tough time against iPad for sure..

      Ha Ha here comes original apple fanboy{i have seen his comments in almost every android/symbian bashing},even in the US android is surging past apple & this fellow doesn’t know anything.

      Put ur custom roms,choose from over 25 music player,inbuilt xvid/divx,a full featured adobe 10.1 flash players,two cameras,vidoeo conferencing,a sim card slot{use it to call},a separate sd card slot.
      What ipad has oh yes an A4 chip {actually a hummingburd only from samsung,apple just changed the name}

      Woooh man that’s quite a difference & the screen size of around 7″-9″ is ideal,the main problem with people especially here in india is that most of them haven’t really use an android,fanboyism is really bad.

      I do accept that Froyo is a mobile OS first but wait till 3.0 comes but even with froyo there are many numbers where it outscores ipad.

        I hope you realise that this post is comparing TABLETS and not PHONES.

        If at all you laid your hands on any tablet you will know what am talking about.

        For your kind information i used almost 10 android devices till date and i know the pluses and minus of a device. Unlike you i dont rant about a device even if it isnt worth it.

        And as far as your same processor goes. The chips are not provided by Samsung.

        Apple and Samsung get their chips from Intrinsic which apple acquired before the launch of iPad. Hummingbird and A4 have a common core only which is a ARM cortex A8 also found in iPhone 3GS. But the GPU varies in both the processors. A4 uses older GPU PowerVR SGX 535 whereas hummingbird uses PowerVR SGX 540.

        A4 and hummingbird are custom made cores with almost similar features but minor differences.

        By the way, hardware is only minor part of a device. Its the software that concludes what the device is. A great hardware with a crappy OS will ruin the experience. Why the hell do we need high hardware specs when you cant utilize it?

        Before even comparing the Samsung galaxy tab to other tablets let google come up with a TABLET OS first.

        Even after google itself confirming that Android isnt ready for tablets yet its damn lame on these major players part to release tablets. And its even more lame to see people support it.. WOW!!!

    It is wrong to compare both iPad and Tab coz iPad is real tablet whereas, Tab is extended Galaxy S mobile phone.

    My vote for iPad………here apple rocks.

New ipad is coming in 2011 with full functionality of a phone as it will have a sim card slot. Also the price of galaxy tab is much more for this kind of tablet. ipad is much better option. Or one may buy a laptop. Some alternatives for galaxy tab (which r not only tabs) – nokia booklet 3g, nokia n9 , ipad , iphone 4.

    Well we are all waiting for the blackberry tablet.
    It’seems that the Galaxy is a nice competitor for both Ipad and Blackberry.
    Galaxy is extremely complete (Tablet + phone) and batteries last longer.
    Flash player is also nice. Fro me is a must I really would like to go to my clients and show them my buisness site working ( http://www.wedding-photographer.it )
