Exclusive : Airtel microSIM card in India with Pics

First official microSIM cards arrive in India on Airtel

We already told you about the MicroSIM card and that Airtel was planning to launch the iPhone in India by September or October this year. We just got an interesting tip from a user who actually got a call from Airtel citing that a microSIM card is available. He went ahead and got one and shared these pics with us.

Airtel is calling it a H-2 Card and it was packed in September 2010 according to the pictures. Looks like all these pics were taken with the iPhone 4. The user also claims that the microSIM fits into the iPhone 4 microSIM tray very well but was disappointed that there was no adapter to covert the microSIM to a full SIM. More pics after the jump.

    Wow… This is something I have been waiting for from months.
    Please do let us know as soon as the iPhone 4 release date is announced by Airtel. Hopefully we get it within next week or so

    Wow….such a fake news!!!Good photoshop trick but this is a big fake..look at the pics clearly guys..not original microsim..as of now airtel hasnt got any micro sima and why would they launch before launching 4g iphone in india.they would loose potential customers if they do so..

    I have a different story. I sent a mail to Airtel (nodalofficer@airtel.in, 121@airtelindia.com) on 11th Sep, inquiring about Airtel microSIM. Below is the reply I got on 14th Sep.

    Thank you for contacting Airtel.

    We regret for the delay in responding to your mail.

    We understand from your previous interaction dated 11/09/2010, you have enquired about getting a micro sim for your iphone.

    We regret to inform you that we are unable to process your request.

    We would also like to inform you that in Airtel there is no such service.

    However, we assure you that your concern will be taken as a feedback and forwarded to the respective department. In future if Airtel provides such service we will surely get back to you.

    For further assistance, mail us at 121@airtelindia.com.

    We value your association with Airtel.

    Varun now i no for sure that this is no photoshop but now the story seems fishy…. I dont think airtel will give anyone the sim coz he ordered without official launching, is it Gizmodo 2 ? lol
    cmon admit it u know after that fiasco gizmodo became the king of leaks…. first the iphone 4 then the got the droid 2 and the droid X….

    i just called up 121 and spoke to the Airtel folks. They mentined that the have started testing the microsim in Delhi.

    Hi guys, I would really appreciate if anyone has come up with genuine info of availability of micro SIM card in India. I just bought factory unlocked iPhone 4 & it is awesome. Micro SIM is available here in Dubai. I too wrote to Airtel India asking the release of micro SIM card but got a senseless reply from the customer care. They said that they don’t have any idea about micro SIM card. Joe.

    To clear all doubts here, these are original pics and not any photoshop tricks.. and yes Varun I took these on my iPhone 4..
    Coming to the point, I am actually surprised that, except for me, no one else here has got the Airtel microSIM already.. Maybe I am lucky.. Anyways, I got this replaced for my existing no. from the Airtel relationship center in Sahara mall, Gurgaon. They seem to have got these in advance.. (pls. note that this is a replacement sim and not a new number sim.. guess they have not commercially launched it yet).
    At first, when I went there to inquire, the guy there told me that they are getting a lot of queries regarding microSIM availability and that they will be arriving soon and he will call as soon as they get them..(btw I got the same reply as Vinni when I enquired through email). Around a week later he called to let me know that they were available and I can get it replaced for Rs.25 (official sim replacement fee).. I went down and got it the next day..
    So do check in your nearest ARC or get one in from Sahara mall, Gurgaon. Or rather be patient as they will be available all over soon..

      By replacement SIM you meant that you have to return existing Airtel SIM and then get a micro SIM? Or you can keep both SIM having same numbers?

      I will check ARC bangalore and will post the availability.

        Well, Vinni, u don’t have to return ur existing sim to get a MicroSIM.. But hold on ur hopes as the older sim will be deactivated once ur newer MicroSIM is activated.. which is usually within 4hrs..

    I would like to share my experience About the microsim
    With Above comments yes you have to return ur old sim
    Ive put into my unlock iphone 4 but i don’t know why it’s showing me NoNO SERVICE , it’s being few hrs I put into ad they promised it gets activated into 24 hrs . So I’ll post once It’s start working . Cheers

      Hey Vikram,

      I took my Micro SIM on 15th and it started working immediately. It says No Service some times, and you need to restart the phone and you should be good.

      How did you unlock it? with Limera!n or Greenpoison?

        Could you let us from where did you get micro SIM?

        I inquired on Airtel CC, they told that SIM is in testing phase and available only in Delhi as of now. I am based on Bangalore. And unluckily micro SIM is not available here. :(

    @Funguyin : Your are right , actually mine started working after 2 days , as there was some server problem & rest as u said … :-)
    I did my unlock thur lim1rain , it works like a charm .

    I dont know about the avaiblity in Banglore but I did confirmed with Cc & then went to local Airtel personal assistance office , I advised you to Please find-out yours nearest to you locality . Also what u can do is find the place where you can able to cut your normal sim into micro sim , that also works like a charm But please dont try to cut by yourself untill an unless u have a knowledge about different size of sim cards in the market or plenty of sim’s to to master it ..;o, I tried mine sadly it didn’t worked very well .
