ZTE Star 2 with 5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 801, system-level voice control announced

ZTE has announced Star 2, successor of the Star 1 that was launched in China earlier this year. It has the same 5-inch full HD display and runs on Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) with MiFavor 3.0 UI. The quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor in the Star 1 is replaced by a Snapdragon 801 processor in the Star 2. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It is just 6.9mm thick, has aircraft-grade aluminum alloy frame, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on the back and also offers Dolby experience.

The main USP of the smartphone it its system-level voice and speech recognition solution that is functional even when the device is offline when there is no network connection. It has rapid response rate of just 1.2 seconds, with a 90% success rate even in noisy conditions, says the company.

This lets you unlock the device with own unique voice tone, make phone calls, open third-party apps, play music, take photos and much more. Other features include, real-time voice-to-text input and play music using voice commands. ZTE Star 2 is supported by more than 1000 patents, of which 158 are related to voice control, says the company.

The ZTE Star 2 comes in Black and White colors and is available in China at 2499 Chinese Yuan ( US$ 400 / Rs. 25,300 approx.). Details regarding the smartphone’s global roll out will be announced later, says ZTE.
