Nokia 5233 is a 5230 sans 3G price is lesser

Retailers here say that 5233 doesn’t have GPS, could you please verify?
Also any official spec/webpage/announcement for 5233?

Day by day Nokia is making me very angry towards its policy of not releasing Nokia 5530, instead it keeps introducing all other models in India.

I purchased Nokia 5233 for 8029/- from Mumbai Mobile Store yesterday. Its simply amazing. Well i had no idea about the specifications before buying this phone. I only knew that its similar to Nokia 5230. I had actually gone to buy Samsung Star but when i saw it i just couldnt resist this phone. Battery life is good. I have charged it yesterday Night and its been almost a day with very heavy usage and the battery is still FULL.
One important thing this phone doesnt come with any MEMORY card and NO DATA CABLE in the box. actually that makes this phone a bit costlier. Sadly i discovered this after making the payment . But overall for the touchscreen i wud rate 10/10. Its very responsive. Accelerometer feature is amazing. Camera is good though not that great. I loved the sensor which shuts the display while talkin to someone and as soon as u move the phone away from the ears the display turns ON. THATS pretty cool way of saving battery. OVERALL its a very good buy…..

ONE MORE THING IT has GPS and OVI software to access it. Sadly NO 3G

Also Multitasking is available which is not there in Samsung Star or CORBY. And one can install free softwares available on the net which is again not possible in Samsung Star and Corby or LG Cookie

another missing feature in 5233 is integrated gps u can check the positioning hardware details in the phone only bluetooth gps and network related are the only options in 5233 so i think integrated gps is missing in the new phone
5230 is having integrated gps.

well retailers here in delhi, dont even know the meaning of gps… they know a jack about technology, except for the profit they are booking frm yur purchase… i strongly reccommend never trust them… get yur home work done prior yur purchase,.

There’s no inbuilt independent GPS like 5800 it’s just A-GPS… you need other gps device bluetooth or network cant access sat. directly

Bought 5233 today at just rs. 6970 and with memory card (4 gb) and leather pouch it costed me rs 7600.
Great deal.
Some drawbacks: mono speaker, no gps, no 3g, camera without flash, no memory card supplied!
But at the price point of rs 7600 all these points can be easily neglected yar!

5233 doesn’t have integrated gps receiver..just browse maps on the mobile just like google maps.. Positioning or realtime navigation is not possible.

dude i bought a nokia 5233 yesterday at Rs. 7500 with 4gb mmc. Its touch screen sensativity is superb but its sound quality in speakers is not so gud, its very low. 1 mor thing 5230 doesnt have da light sensor required 4 camera in da front side of da phone but 5233 has it.

hey guys, price of 5233 seems to varying a lot. I know that in Mumbai/Maharashtra you guys pay 8% more VAT. But in Delhi I bought it last week for 7800 from Nokia Priority Dealer with 2GB card and original nokia data cable.
Can anyone get lower than this? One of my friend got it for 7400 from Mobilestore with 4GB card,pouch,cable,hard case,screen guard. great deal as part of republic day offer on 26th Jan.
Actually Nokia has really made mess with 5230/5233, they have not officially clarified status.I have been to many shops even NPDs and noone is selling 5230. I can confirm that.

5800 has 3.2mp camera with dual LED Flash,3G wifi,sterio speakers(dual speakers),3.2inch screen,16 million colours.priced at 13500.5235 has same spec but lacks 3G,and screen size 2.9inch and good looks,not launched yet(expected price 10000),5230 is out of market.5233 lacks 3G and wifi,poor speakers,2 mp camera without flash.priced at 7200INR.
Hardware is same in all four sets ie.435MHz processor,128MB RAM
operating system is also same ie.S60 V9.4 FP5. So its your choice………….

Ya 5233 is slightly different from 5230 as it has no 3G which was available in 5230.3g refers to 3rd generation mobile service which includes high speed data transfer upto speed of 3.7Mbps and video calling.5233 based on 2G technology which is common.

WIFI- It is wireless LAN. You can use internet free of cost with high speed data transfer if wifi WLAN is available in that area.

I have purchased a 5233 recently from a proper ‘Nokia Concept Store’ in South Mumbai with intelligible company salespeople. It does not have a GPS chip so it CANNOT do real time positioning. Please get this one fact straight. HOWEVER, you can use Ovi Maps or Google Maps to see your current location BY through GPRS. I hope everyone is clear on this. 5230 and 5800 have propoer GPS chips that provide real time positioning. I have see it myself on a 5800.

Hi friends, I recently purchased Nokia 5233 model. Drawbacks of the mobile:
Apart from clear cut drawbacks like; Camera with out flash, no Wi-fi, no independent GPS,no 3G it has draw back which you will come to know only after using. All the above said drawbacks can be make out from specifications itself and hence company is not the defaulter. These companies have lot of experience and still they make mistakes repeatedly.

Problem is: Speakers are of poorest quality even low end mobiles of Nokia itself have better. Rather saying ‘poorest quality speakers’ it is better to say ‘poorest speaker adjustments’. Using a headset at some noisy place, it is difficult to hear dialogue of a movie/clip comfortably unless the actor is shouting. You can hear but I mean comfortably you can not hear. While using you will feel to increase the volume and it will frustrate you like anything. Ok songs you can hear because they have high music. The very purpose of the mobile is defeated, when you are out in a bus or metro train and you want to use it you can not. I do not want to get change the speakers but just amplify the volume. And if in doing so signal becomes noisy let it be. But at least give a choice to the user. Let him decide to hear noisy stuff or not to hear at all.

For those who believe in experiments, I have done an experiment to prove this. I recorded the same radio channel through my older low end mobile which is of Nokia itself and the Nokia-5233. I kept both of them at maximum volume. I analyzed the recorded sound in my computer and found that the volume of 5233 is at least half of that of my older mobile. Same way the FM signal is worst.

It can be a scrap for many of you but I want to draw attention of Nokia. I feel pity as well agitated after all they are not giving me free of cost. It’s a simple thing which they have to take care and they do not. The things are done so carelessly. Either the engineers are worst which they hire or the company do not have good procedural set up to check before launching a mobile. There must be some explicit scientific way to check the volume adjustment and things like that. Even if it is given to me I can do that, its just about amplifying the signal.

Dear Mr Vinod,yes i agree to your opinion.My usage experience is also somehow same.The low volume is really frustrating.Can Nokia bear our cost? Company should be answerable to users problem. Can anyone suggest a temporary solution like attachable external amplifier? I mean any headsets are available with amplifier.

I have used both 5230 and 5233. The basic difference is not only 3g and 2g. 5230 has got integrated GPS and A-GPS. 5233 has only A-GPS. The difference is in 5233 you can get location in accuracy of 70-100 meters whereas in 5230 you can get it in 10 meters and on depending on satellite data available to it. In indoors only A-GPS works but for maps and navigation Integrated GPS is must.

I’m a symbian developer and I’ve worked on all symbian nokia phones. I would suggest a 5230 over 5233 and 5800.a Basic feature is a GPS and free navigation from nokia. 5233 has only A-GPS which gives location from mobile towers and nokia server, and not from your phone’s integrated gps. this means the acuracy is 70-100 meters in best case. 5230 has integrated gps so best accuracy you can get is 5-10 meters. Best for people who are getting this phone for gps. 5233 will not work with any navigation software.

About the availability, the dealers margins on 5233 are more than that of 5230. So the demand for 5230 was very less and nokia stopped putting it into market. Bad luck India.

The only good thing about 5233 is its screen resolution. Its only a good-looking phone, nothing else is good in 5233. 5233 has no 3g and no GPS. Also, 5233 has resistive touch screen, whereas capacitive touchscreen is better. Camera is also only 2 MP. But the worst thing about 5233 is the poor sound volume. You cant hear it while riding in a bus or train. Dont buy 5233 if you like to listen to music.

I recently Purchase 5233 and it has been hanging ever since. Now the Nokia Service center says they can repair it and have to send it to head office. I need some advice here. Should I send it for further repair or file a complaint at consumer court for changing my cell and giving me a new handset?? The phone is only about 3 weeks old and ever since the 3rd day it had started malfunctioning.

Well i bought it on 3rd of Feb and it is still working well but its sound is dissapointing as Nokia catagorised it to a XpressMusic series but its sound is very low as compared to others Xpressmusic phones and it also gought a mono speaker…………………. What a waste of money in music section though it is a superb touch phone. it is better to buy a Samsung Corby or Star than buying it. Even the New Lg Cookie pep is better than Nokia 5233.

It just bought it yesterday and yes it looks like it has replaced the 5230 at least in Mumbai stores. Overall, 3 was useless to me so I’m pretty satisfied with purchasing this for such a low price. It’s an awesome phone. A little patience and you will soon get the hang of it.

Hey, I bought nokia 5233 recently and it works good. Im much satisfied by it . The price is fabulous for symbian v5 device with 16 million colours…! Touch screen is good & net speed is also nice.
Though camera is mere 2mp but clarity is well. There is option for copy,cut,paste & a search device application as in iphone 3gs and even has GPS.
If you are looking for a good phone at around 8K definitely go for it…..;-)

file dis complaint in consumer court

Brother go to the consumer forum in your area now.
This set is having problem lots of peoples are having problem in this set.

I am totally aware of nokia care centres because i fought with them for my three mobile handsets.

They did nothing and make you fool for one or two month when you hand over your set.

So go to the consumer court and file your case against them I am also having same problem in this set.

I am also a owner of this set.

A person sued the company in consumer court he won and company gave him the refund.

He told the court that he don’t need the handset because all other peoples are having problem with the same set.

The company refunded the money!!

Don’t hesitate just go and file.

I m actually satisfied with colour white but with performance it really sucks.its better to buy asus p320 Also its touch screen nd works great!

hey…ive just bought this cell n believe me it is the best phone in mid range..on comparing wid nokia pep it has more feature like supports symbian,third party software,gps,themes, proximeter,breathing light, and camera quality is way to best..the resolution of the screen is also at a par..
The touch screen responce is also the best on comparing wid other phone like corby,pep..so wat it doesnt hav 3g but it has another feature called hsdt i.e high speed data transfer..n buying 3g phone is waste as we dont hav 3g spectrum (network) in india except bsnl.

I have gone through all the suggestions that every one had but i have one that it is good GUI phone Net speed is fast & Multimedia features are average not good than other (Nokia 2700 classic) phones.
I observed the same hanging problem even i have not installed memory card yet.

Nokia 5233 is a cool phone. all who are criticizing it; they either haven’t used or they use some expensive smartphone. Nokia 5233 is damn awesome smart phone with full touch, motion sensing, maps, fast browser etc. No other phone in this range can match Nokia 5233. suckers……..

I recently Purchase 5233 and it has been getting heated. The Nokia Service center says they can repair it and have to send it to head office & returned back to me after one week.
When I asked what was the issue, Nokia Service center says that issue is rectified by the head office and they doesn’t know what was the complaint. The phone is only about 3 weeks old and issue happened after 3days.

i got mine for 7400 + 350 for 2GB Card + 151 for an years additional warranty from hypercity last week.but i think u should go for 5235XPressmusic
it comes with same features but lifetime free download of tracks from Nokia Music Store and 320 mb internal memory.

you r absolutely rite . this phone does not have gps . All it has is A-GPS ( fake gps ) . that means you can connect ur phone to an external gps device or connect to gprs to find ur position. after 2 months i got nokia 5230 3g which costs Rs. 7700/-. It’s a best feature phone but it losts wi-fi and secondary camera for video calling. THE 2 R MISSING AND OTHERS features are best than ever. wow very nice phone. u all people keep intrest on nokia 5230 or 5233 and buy it otherwise u should die.

Dont ever think of buying Sony Ericsson C510. I have been suffering with it for the last 6 month. If the call is more thatn 2 min, the mobile reboots. The SIM gets inactive frequently. The service centre folks says its a generic issue with C510. Keyboard issue is also frequent.

Nokia 5230 is still been marketed in india … I just purchased this set last month in jaipur , my bro. Lives in dheli got the same set two months before… I would suggest you to buy 5230 which is way better than 5233… U will thank me if u took my suggestion.
