Tablet Market Faces Pressure
The decline in EMEA came amid a broader slowdown in the tablet market. Worldwide tablet shipments fell to 33.6 million units in Q2 2026, down 12.3% year-on-year and 5.2% from the previous quarter, according to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.
IDC attributed the wider decline largely to rising memory costs and supply pressures affecting consumer devices. These factors have also contributed to price increases across several tablet product lines, putting further pressure on consumer demand.
Against this backdrop, HONOR’s tablet shipments continued to grow in EMEA during the quarter. The company’s performance came as the broader regional Android tablet market contracted, with IDC identifying HONOR among the brands expanding their tablet presence through their existing smartphone businesses.
Speaking on the report, Daniel Goncalves, Senior Research Manager at IDC, said:
Over the last couple of years, competition in the entry-level and mid-range Android tablet segments has become increasingly fragmented, with a proliferation of players seeking to capture market share during a period of installed-base renewals and broader product refresh cycles.
Many of these recent challengers to Samsung’s dominance in the Android tablet space, such as Honor and Xiaomi, have leveraged their established presence in the smartphone market to expand into tablets. At the same time, we are seeing a declining emphasis on connectivity, alongside a growing focus on building productivity ecosystems, with the proliferation of Android-based devices offering first-party keyboards being a key indicator of this shift.
