Biomoneta Research has launched Avata Air, an indoor air-purification and microbial decontamination device in India in collaboration with Panasonic. The launch marks Biomoneta’s entry into the Indian consumer air-care market.
Biomoneta Avata Air
Avata Air combines air purification with microbial decontamination. According to Biomoneta, it eliminates more than 99.999% of airborne microorganisms and removes 99.97% of airborne particles and harmful gases.
The device is designed for rooms of up to 250 square feet and has a Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 200 CFM. It has a compact design and a maximum stated noise level of 50 decibels, while its sleep mode operates at low speed with the lights switched off.
Biomoneta lists the following use spaces and pollutants:
- Bedrooms, home offices and smaller living areas
- Dust, smoke and allergens
- Fine particulate matter
- Airborne biological contaminants
ZeBox technology
At the core of Avata Air is Biomoneta’s patented ZeBox technology, which captures and inactivates airborne microorganisms rather than simply trapping them on a filter. Its non-ionising electric field uses the electrical characteristic known as zeta potential to draw microorganisms towards charged electrodes.
Air passes through three-dimensional textured electrodes coated with microbicidal agents, where captured microorganisms are inactivated through electric and chemical forces. The company says ZeBox can operate continuously in occupied spaces without UV radiation, chemical sprays or intentionally generated ozone.
Biomoneta says ZeBox has more than 10 years of research behind it and works against:
- Bacteria
- Viruses
- Fungi
- Spores
The technology also has low airflow resistance. Biomoneta says this reduces the fan power required compared with dense HEPA filters and contributes to lower energy consumption.
Air Health Score
Avata Air includes an Air Health Score ranging from 0 to 100. It combines multiple environmental and microbial indicators rather than relying only on particulate measurements.
The score includes:
- PM2.5, PM4 and PM10
- Volatile organic compounds (VOC)
- Carbon dioxide (CO₂)
- Temperature and relative humidity
- Total microbial load
The device indicates whether overall air conditions are good, moderate or poor. The score can also track changes following activities such as cooking, cleaning and increased occupancy, as well as during operation of the device.
The Air Health Score is based on Biomoneta’s Quantitative Airborne Microbial Index (qAMI), which uses microbial and environmental signals with machine-learning models to estimate changes in airborne microbial load.
Testing and Avata Rx connection
Biomoneta’s microbial air-decontamination technology has been deployed and evaluated in intensive care units, operating theatres, IVF facilities and neonatal care facilities. Its medical-grade Avata Rx product has received US FDA clearance as a Class II medical device.
Avata Air is a separate consumer product but uses the same underlying ZeBox technology as the US FDA-cleared Avata Rx. Biomoneta says ZeBox has been evaluated by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, ARE Labs in the US and Intertek.
The testing has covered airborne microorganisms including:
- Bacteria and fungi
- Spores
- SARS-CoV-2
- Mycobacterium tuberculosis
- Drug-resistant organisms
The company also says findings have been published in peer-reviewed literature and that the technology was developed with support from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Biomoneta has also received support from the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), a life-sciences innovation and entrepreneurship hub in India.
Panasonic collaboration
Avata Air emerged from Biomoneta’s engagement with the Panasonic Ignition programme, which connects startups with Panasonic’s innovation, technology and consumer ecosystem. The programme supports real-world deployment, business integration and scale.
The collaboration brings Biomoneta’s consumer product into Panasonic’s consumer ecosystem as the company expands beyond its institutional and healthcare markets.
