Sony RX10 V with 20.1MP Exmor RS CMOS sensor, AI autofocus, 4K 120p video and 25x optical zoom announced

Sony Electronics has introduced the RX10 V, the fifth-generation model in its RX10 all-in-one super zoom camera series. It features a built-in ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm F2.4-4.0 lens with 25x optical zoom, covering wide-angle to super-telephoto photography.

Sony RX10 V

The Sony RX10 V features a 20.1-megapixel (effective) 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor paired with the BIONZ XR image processing engine. It adds an AI processing unit for Real-time Recognition AF, which detects and tracks subjects, along with blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30 fps with full 60 fps AF/AE tracking.

The camera uses a large-aperture lens and 1.0-type sensor for background blur. It also features a grip design and button layout based on Sony’s Alpha mirrorless series, a 0.5-type Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder, an upgraded LCD monitor, and a Z-series NP-FZ100 battery that supports approximately 630 shots per charge.

Key Features

  • Lens and image processing: The ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm F2.4-4.0 lens offers a 25x optical zoom range with optical image stabilization and supports macro focusing from approximately 3cm at 24mm and 72cm at 600mm. The BIONZ XR processor reduces noise at mid-to-high ISO settings, while the camera includes 12 customizable Creative Look presets and D-Range Optimizer with adjustment up to Lv8.
  • Autofocus and shooting: The AI-powered Real-time Recognition AF detects people, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and airplanes. Human Pose Estimation helps track subjects even when they turn away or wear helmets or sunglasses. The camera supports touch-based Real-time Tracking, blackout-free shooting at up to 30 fps, up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second, and Continuous Shooting Speed Boost.
  • Video recording: The RX10 V supports 4K 120p recording, 4K slow motion up to 5x, Active Mode stabilization, and digital audio input through the Multi Interface Shoe. It also includes AI-powered Auto Framing, S-Cinetone, S-Log3, support for up to 16 user LUTs, time-lapse recording, and Shot Mark.
  • Display and connectivity: The camera includes a 0.5-type Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder with approximately 3.68 million dots and 0.78x magnification, along with a 3.0-type LCD monitor with approximately 1.62 million dots. It supports Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz), USB Type-C, 4K 30p live streaming, Sony Creators’ App features, and a dust- and moisture-resistant design.
