Xiaomi has unveiled the SkyNomad (Xiaomi Pengcheng) series, the second product lineup under its EV brand. While the Xiaomi SU7 and Xiaomi YU7 series are positioned as driver-focused vehicles, the SkyNomad series is designed as an intelligent, reconfigurable large-space SUV that focuses on passenger comfort and a cabin that adapts to different usage scenarios.
Together, the two product series address different user needs and build on more than five years of Xiaomi’s EV development. The launch also expands Xiaomi EV’s product portfolio.
In a post on Weibo describing SkyNomad’s development, Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi, wrote,
Our answer was to let intelligence define the space, to build a living interior that moves with you.
According to Xiaomi, the SkyNomad series was developed in response to changing customer priorities. The company said that while large six- and seven-seat SUVs with feature-rich interiors have become common, buyers are increasingly prioritizing cabin comfort over larger interiors and additional features.
Xiaomi added that common use cases include daily commuting of up to two hours, resting in the driver’s seat, working while parked, family travel, and camping. The company said these usage patterns shaped the development of the SkyNomad series, which began in early 2023.
SkyNomad features
The SkyNomad series is built on Xiaomi’s new Kunlun Architecture, developed from early 2023 to support a reconfigurable interior. According to the company, the platform includes:
- Flat-floor SUV architecture.
- Long-track seating system.
- Cabin layouts for passengers, luggage, and pets while driving.
- Parked modes that convert the cabin into a workspace, lounge, or family activity area.
- Integration with AI technologies, Xiaomi’s smart-device ecosystem, and smart manufacturing capabilities.
Xiaomi said the SkyNomad series is intended for users who need one vehicle for daily commuting, family travel, and occasional work-from-car scenarios.
The company added that the lineup is designed for professionals and parents alike, reflecting the different roles of the same user throughout the day. Xiaomi also said the series is the result of three and a half years of development.
Availability
Xiaomi said the SkyNomad series will launch in mainland China soon. Additional details will be announced later.
