Indian consumers are among the most energy-conscious in the world, ranking second globally in energy savings through effective use of AI, according to an internal study by Samsung. The findings highlight increasing adoption of AI-powered home appliances in India that support more efficient and sustainable energy usage.
AI-powered energy optimisation across home appliances
The study is based on consumers using Samsung’s Bespoke AI-powered home appliances integrated with SmartThings AI Energy Mode. These systems use AI to analyse appliance usage patterns and automatically adjust operations to manage electricity consumption more efficiently.
The AI system optimises performance in real time and applies usage-based adjustments to reduce energy consumption across compatible appliances such as air conditioners, washing machines, and refrigerators.
SmartThings ecosystem for connected energy management
Samsung SmartThings is a connected platform that allows users to control and automate compatible home devices from a single application.
It links multiple appliances into one ecosystem and provides real-time monitoring of energy usage. Through AI-based automation and tracking, SmartThings AI Energy Mode helps users manage energy consumption based on household usage patterns.

Key features of AI Energy Mode
- Up to 30% energy savings on air conditioners
- Up to 70% energy savings on washing machines and washer dryers
- Real-time energy monitoring through the SmartThings app
- Usage-based optimisation using AI analysis
- Automated adjustments to support reduced energy consumption
Outlook
The study indicates a growing shift in India toward AI-driven energy management in households. With rising electricity demand, especially during peak usage seasons, smart home systems powered by AI are expected to play a larger role in helping users optimise consumption while maintaining everyday appliance performance.
