Vi has announced the rollout of its 5G services in Kochi, with plans to expand to Thiruvananthapuram on August 20. The launch follows recent 5G activations in Kozhikode and Malappuram, marking a continuation of the company’s 5G expansion efforts.
The company’s 5G rollout is part of a broader strategy to deploy the technology across 17 priority circles where it holds 5G spectrum. This phased expansion has already brought 5G services to a number of major cities, including Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Nagpur, and Jaipur, among others.
Vi stated that users in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram with 5G-enabled devices can now access its 5G network. As an introductory offer, the company is providing unlimited 5G data to users on plans starting from ₹299.
Vi has partnered with Ericsson in Kerala to implement energy-efficient infrastructure and utilize AI-powered Self-Organizing Networks (SON) to optimize network performance.
In addition to the 5G rollout, Vi has also been upgrading its 4G network in Kerala to improve coverage and data speeds. Since March 2024, the company has deployed 900 MHz spectrum on over 1,400 sites to enhance indoor coverage and has augmented its network with 2100 MHz spectrum on 4,300 sites.
These upgrades, which were implemented over a 15-month period ending in June 2025, are reported to have increased network capacity in Kerala by 22 percent.
Commenting on the launch, George Mathew V, Business Head-Kerala, Vodafone Idea, said:
As we launch Vi 5G in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, we are excited to bring the future of connectivity to the four key cities of Kerala. With our next-gen 5G alongside our robust 4G services, we aim to provide more options and an enhanced experience to our users. We are committed to systematically expanding our 5G footprint across Kerala, in line with growing demand and 5G handset adoption.
