Last week, we were invited to visit the Nokia Research Center located in Bangalore, where the Nokia Research Team demoed us a pilot project called “We Meet“, a Location Aware SMS Based application.
This application allows the users to create groups and chat with group in realtime. And also since the application supports location sharing based on the CBS i.e Cell Broadcast Service, the user can even broadcast their location with the rest of the group members without a GPS enabled device.
We Meet works on Java and hence can be easily run on all S60 and S40 Devices. Using the Java application, you can create create a group, add members to a particular group, participate in a real time chat with a specific group, modify application settings like turning on/off the location sharing service to protect your privacy, turning on/off the whole service etc. You can also keep track of the sent and received SMS using the inbuilt SMS Counter.
However if your phone does not support Java, you can still use the “We Meet” service by making use of the text commands listed here.
So if you are interested in trying out this group SMS application, just head over to the application’s home page and download the application.
