With less than a couple of weeks to go for the launch of much awaited Sony PlayStation 4, Sony has made the PlayStation app available across North America in both Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The newly released application is compatible with both phones as well as tablets. The basic functionality of the app is that it lets users view and interact with Sony’s PlayStation Network. The app also allows players to view what their friends are playing and they can discover information through “What’s new” feature. Through the app, users can also accept and send multi-player invites.

PlayStation App offers extra screen functionality via the Connect to PS4 feature for all the games that have support. In addition, the PlayStation app displays PSN Trophy information and offers access to the PlayStation. Currently the app features chat facilities with friends and in the future it is also expected to include Twitter and Facebook integration.

The new PS4 Companion app was first announced way back in February when Sony announced their PS4. The application is currently available only in North America and its roll out is expected right in time for the launch of Sony PlayStation 4.
