Nokia Lumia 1520 vs Apple iPhone 5s Hands On


Nokia launched a lot of devices at their Nokia World Event in Abu Dhabi. Among the devices that were launched, one smartphone stood out, not just in terms of size, but in terms of other things too. As the smartphone market is taking a turn towards the phablet segment, Nokia launched their first phablet Nokia Lumia 1520. Nokia Lumia 1520 stood out because it is the first Windows Phone phablet, the first Windows Phone 8 smartphone with a quad-core processor and the first Windows Phone device that has a Full HD 1080p display. Although Apple is yet to goto the phablet territory, we have Apple’s latest and greatest smartphone – Apple iPhone 5S against the Lumia 1520.

Nokia Lumia 1520 is a phablet and is built upon the familiar Lumia design language with a polycarbonate matte-finish unibody. The iPhone 5S is just a 4inch device(yes, 4inch falls under the “small” category these days) with one of the best and premium build qualities out there. The iPhone 5S is clad in Aluminum and has chamfered edges that make it look stunning and premium. In terms of dimensions, the Lumia 1520 is way bigger than the iPhone 5S in terms of height and width and it is marginally thicker. In terms of weight, the Lumia 1520 weighs around 209g while the iPhone weighs a little over the half of Lumia 1520 at 112g.

Nokia Lumia 1520 is powered by a Snapdragon 800 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz, has 2GB RAM and Adreno 330 GPU while the iPhone 5S is powered by a Dual-core 1.3 GHz Cyclone (ARM v8-based) Apple A7 Chip, has 1GB of RAM and graphics are taken care by PowerVR G6430 quad-core Graphics GPU. Nokia Lumia 1520 has 32GB internal storage and a microSD card slot for expansion while Apple continues to offer iPhones in 16/32/64GB storage options without a microSD card slot. Nokia Lumia 1520 comes with a huge 20MP PureView camera that produces 16MP images and over-sampled 5MP images while Apple’s iPhone 5S comes with a 8MP camera with a 1/3inch sensor size. There is a dual-LED flash on Lumia 1520 while iPhone 5s comes with what Apple as a True-tone flash.
