Google has not submitted a new Google Maps App to Apple

Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt has confirmed that Google has not offered a new Google Maps app to Apple, according to a report from the Reuters. The new iOS 6 update that started rolling out for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch last week uses Apple’s own maps instead of Google Maps from the pervious versions of iOS. The new iPhone 5 that sold 5 milion units in the first 3 days also comes with the iOS 6.

Even though the new Maps in iOS 6 offers 3D Flyover feature with interactive 3D view and voice-based turn-by turn navigation in select places, it has been criticized for its reliability of directions and data. It also lacks public transit directions. It took several years for Google to offer near to accurate map details and navigation including traffic for international users.

Eric Schmidt who is visiting Japan to launch Google’s Nexus 7 tablet also said they have been in talks with Apple everyday for a long time. So it is up to Apple to decide whether to go for Google Maps or stay with their own Maps.
