MTS launches mPOS card payment acceptance service

MTS has launched a new service called MTS mPOS (Mobile as Point of Sale) that offers acceptance of card-based payments through mobile phones and tablets. This service reduces the high hardware costs of a conventional POS terminal and the monthly maintenance charges and would be useful for useful for retailers, home-delivery based service models like e-commerce players, food chains etc. PayMate launched similar service and the app called PayPOS last month.

This is very simple and easy to use.  Users can download mPOS application on the MTS Smartphone, Fix the mPOS attachment on the Smartphone via the audio jack, Open the app & enter the transaction amount and other required details, Swipe the Credit or Debit Card on the attachment. After that customer can check the transaction details, authorize it and sign on the phone.

Once the transaction is processed, intimation would be sent to the card holder via SMS and email and the amount would be transferred to the merchant’s registered bank account. The Credit/Debit Card details are encrypted and the end-to-end solution is PCI (Payment Card industry) DSS (Data Security Standards) compliant.

MTS has partnered with e-commerce retailers like Flipkart.com and Yebhi.com for the pilot service where they will provide the MTS MTag 3.1 Smartphones and the data services.

The total bundle (MTS MTag 3.1, mPOS attachment and 1 year Data plan) would be priced between Rs. 3000 – Rs. 4000. MTS plan to launch this service nationally.
