Samsung has announced the Galaxy Buds On, an open-ear wireless audio device designed to allow situational awareness alongside media playback. Slated for release in early November 2026, the earbuds expand Samsung’s wearable lineup by offering an alternative to traditional in-ear models like the Galaxy Buds4 Pro, targeting active environments such as outdoor workouts and daily commuting.
Design and Ergonomics
The Galaxy Buds On utilizes a clip-on form factor intended to sit outside the ear canal rather than inside it. According to Samsung, the design was developed using computational modeling, physics simulations, and a dataset of over 119 million ear data points to accommodate various ear anatomies.

Each earbud weighs 6.65 grams. The geometry of the band, battery, and speaker housing has been engineered to distribute weight evenly, reducing pressure while maintaining stability during motion. The earbuds support tap-based touch controls and are housed in a slim charging case. Battery life is rated at up to 9.5 hours of continuous music playback on a single charge, extending to 38 hours total when utilizing the case.
Audio Architecture and Call Features
To deliver audio while maintaining ambient awareness, the Galaxy Buds On incorporates a TwinBoost Speaker system that dynamically adjusts volume levels based on ambient environmental noise. The audio processing is handled by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon® S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform paired with a high-efficiency Class-D amplifier.
To address common sound-bleed issues associated with open-ear products, Samsung implemented an Audio Leakage Reduction mechanism. This technology projects inverted sound waves from the rear of the speaker housing to cancel out outward-bound frequencies, preserving listener privacy.
For voice communications, the device features “Intelligent Clear Call,” which pairs three microphones with a Voice Pickup Unit (VPU) that tracks jaw and bone vibrations to identify when the user is speaking. A machine-learning filter trained on urban sound profiles—such as vehicle horns and construction work—actively suppresses ambient noise during transmission.
Ecosystem Integration and Hands-Free Controls
The Galaxy Buds On integrates directly into the broader Samsung and Google software ecosystems. Galaxy device users can pair the hardware without requiring a separate download of the Galaxy Wearable app; opening the charging cradle initiates pairing, and basic settings such as equalizers and volume controls appear directly within the Android Quick Panel.
Hands-free functionality includes:
- Head Gestures: Users can nod or shake their head to manage incoming calls, silence alarms, or trigger notification readouts.
- AI Integration: Voice-activated access allows users to engage Gemini Live by stating, “Hey Google, let’s talk live.”
- Quick Voice Memo: Long-pressing an earbud activates on-the-fly voice recording, with voice-command indexing supported through Bixby.
