Google has announced the global availability of Gemini on Android Auto and cars with Google built-in. The company is also rolling out Personal Intelligence with Gemini, starting on Android Auto and extending to cars with Google built-in in the coming months
Gemini Personal Intelligence features
With the user’s permission, Personal Intelligence securely connects information from Google Workspace, including Gmail and Google Calendar, as well as Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube, and Search.
It can retrieve specific details from emails, photos, and places saved in Google Maps, reason across complex sources, and answer questions without requiring users to explain the context. Drivers can also use natural voice interactions to brainstorm ideas while on the road.

Google has outlined several examples of how drivers can use Personal Intelligence.
- Check flight details: Drivers heading to the airport can ask Gemini for their flight gate and whether their flight is on time. Gemini can provide both answers without requiring separate searches for the confirmation email and flight delays.
- Find restaurants based on preferences: Drivers in an unfamiliar town can ask Gemini to find an indoor restaurant along their route that matches their usual preferences. Vegetarian users can receive a shortlist of places that fit their needs.
- Navigate to appointments: Drivers can ask Gemini to navigate to their doctor’s appointment without having to remember or look up the street address.
- Find places from photos: Users can ask Gemini to find a car wash shown in a photo taken the previous week and navigate there, without scrolling through their camera roll to identify the place and obtain directions.
- Return to previously discussed places: Drivers can ask Gemini to navigate to a coffee shop they discussed the previous day. Gemini can retrieve the relevant context and provide directions.
Privacy and availability
Users must choose to connect their apps to Personal Intelligence and can turn off the feature at any time through their Gemini settings. On cars with Google built-in, personalized responses are available only when the user is in the car with their phone connected.
Without Personal Intelligence, users can still use navigation, listen to music, make calls, and ask questions in the car, but the answers will not be tailored to their personal information.
Personal Intelligence is rolling out under the following conditions:
- Android Auto: The rollout starts today.
- Cars with Google built-in: Availability is planned for the coming months.
- Eligible accounts: Personal Google accounts belonging to users aged 18 and older. Users who have already enabled Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app can use it in the car; others can configure their preferences through Gemini settings.
- Excluded accounts: Google Workspace business, enterprise, and education accounts.
- Excluded regions: The European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria.
