HUAWEI has launched the HUAWEI FreeBuds 7 in China alongside the HUAWEI Watch 6 series. The earbuds come in Sunlight Orange, Midsummer Purple, Moonlight White, and Starry Black.
Design and comfort
HUAWEI says the FreeBuds 7 uses its Yuezhang Star Ring design and weighs 4.3g per earbud. Compared with the previous generation, the earbuds are 12% lighter and 15% smaller, while the charging case is 25% smaller and 17% lighter. HUAWEI has also increased battery energy density by 20%.
For a more comfortable fit, HUAWEI says it analysed data from more than 10,000 human ears and tens of millions of ear-shape data points. Based on this research, the company reduced average wearing pressure by 19% and moved the center of gravity 17% inward toward the sound outlet to improve stability.

Adaptive ANC and calls
The FreeBuds 7 uses a third-generation Audio AI chip with dual DSPs and an NPU, doubling general computing power. It can sample environmental noise up to 400,000 times per second with processing latency as low as 8 microseconds.
The chip works with an updated AI adaptive ANC algorithm, dedicated acoustic architecture, low-noise microphones, and a custom high-fidelity full-range driver. Noise cancellation adjusts based on wearing tightness and surrounding noise, helping reduce office conversations, traffic, snoring, and other environmental sounds.
Compared with the previous generation, HUAWEI lists:
- 2.3x higher average noise cancellation depth
- 275% higher maximum noise cancellation bandwidth
- 750% faster noise cancellation convergence
For calls, three microphones work with bone-conduction pickup, VPU, NPU, and DNN-based noise reduction. The system supports up to 100dB two-way call noise cancellation and wind noise resistance of up to 8m/s across HarmonyOS, iOS, and Android.
Audio
The FreeBuds 7 features HUAWEI’s Yuezhang Audio Quality system, combining a custom high-fidelity full-range unit with Turbo acoustic architecture. It supports:
- 14Hz–48kHz frequency response
- 96kHz/24-bit lossless audio
- Wireless transmission up to 4.6Mbps
HUAWEI says three-band balance has improved by 14%, while the third-generation Audio AI chip’s independent DAC reduces the noise floor by 20%. Quadruple Adaptive EQ adjusts sound based on volume, wearing state, surroundings, and individual ear canal differences.
The earbuds also support independent Spatial Audio with head tracking across devices and content platforms. Distributed dual-frequency antennas improve anti-interference by 78% and offer a connection range of up to 200 metres in open space.
AI, recording and translation
The FreeBuds 7 adds an AI agent, Smart Audio Notifications, and Intelligent Message Summarization. It can provide notifications for services such as ride-hailing, flight boarding, and food delivery, while summarizing key information from multiple incoming messages.
For recording, the earbuds can capture phone calls or audio played on the connected device. When placed in the charging case, they can record surrounding voices for meetings, lectures, and interviews. AI tools can then provide transcription, translation, and text summarization.
Translation features include:
- Phone-to-Earbud translation
- Dual-Earbud translation
- Simultaneous interpretation
- Offline Chinese-English translation
Controls and karaoke
The stem supports pinch, tap, slide, and long-press gestures for playback, calls, volume, recording, and noise control. A dedicated AI Key can wake the AI agent or start a voice memo.
The earbuds also support direct vocal monitoring for karaoke. NearLink E2.0 provides low-latency connectivity for real-time vocal feedback, with karaoke support for Huawei Music and Quanmin K Ge.
Connectivity and other features
The FreeBuds 7 supports Bluetooth 6.0, Star Flash NearLink E2.0, dual-device connection, and HarmonyOS Multi-Device Connection. Supported codecs include SBC, AAC, L2HC, and LDAC, while LHDC and Apt-X are not supported.
Device Finder supports online and offline tracking with distance, direction, floor-level positioning, remote ringing, and left-behind alerts. Offline search needs to be enabled beforehand.
Other features include customizable connection pop-ups, IP55 dust and water resistance, pass-through mode, Hi-Res Audio, HWA, and low-latency audio. The AI Life app supports feature management on HarmonyOS, iOS, and Android.
Battery life
The earbuds have 48mAh batteries each, while the charging case has a 460mAh battery. Battery life depends on whether sound quality or connection stability is prioritized.
With ANC on/off:
- Music – sound quality priority: 4.5h / 7h
- Music – stable connection priority: 5h / 8.5h
- Voice calls: 3.5h / 4.5h
With the charging case, music playback reaches up to 21/33 hours with ANC on/off under the sound-quality priority mode, or 24/42 hours under the stable-connection priority mode. Voice calls reach up to 16/21 hours with ANC on/off.
