Meta introduces Muse Image AI model with Instagram Stories effects, WhatsApp integration

Meta has introduced Muse Image, its first image generation model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, bringing AI-powered image creation and editing features to Meta AI. The model lets users generate images from text prompts or existing photos, edit and share them across Meta apps, while also powering new creative tools across Instagram and WhatsApp.

Muse Image brings AI image generation and editing tools

Muse Image works alongside Muse Spark and supports image generation using conversational prompts. Users can create images from scratch or existing photos, and use Meta AI to edit and refine their creations.

Key features include:

  • Image generation from text prompts or existing photos
  • Removing unwanted objects from images
  • Combining multiple images into one
  • Creating QR codes
  • Generating visuals with readable text for guides and infographics

The model also includes a presets panel with suggested prompts for restoring old family photos, trying different hairstyles, creating claymation-style portraits, and generating 16-bit game-inspired images.

Users can also photograph a room and ask Meta AI to redesign it using products from the web or Facebook Marketplace, with the option to choose a preferred style or trending designs.

Meta said Muse Image processes prompts in multiple stages by planning layouts, using real-time web context, and combining multiple visual references before generating an image. Users can further refine creations by marking up images with sketches or annotations, while Meta AI retains the conversation context to apply additional edits without restarting.

Instagram gets AI-powered Stories effects

Meta is introducing more than 30 AI-powered effects for Instagram Stories using Muse Image. The effects can adjust lighting, apply different visual styles, or transform photos with a single tap. Examples include Night Flash, Disposable, Puffer, Paper Doll, and IG Charms. Users can also create their own effects by entering a text prompt.

The update also includes a redesigned Stories composer with an effects browser that previews each effect before it is applied. Several effects were developed in collaboration with Instagram creators including @zzdesign, @rourke, @aader.archv, @harukohayakawa, and @dontaecatlett.

Meta is also adding support for mentioning friends’ public Instagram accounts in Meta AI to generate personalized images such as birthday cards, group trip memes, and other custom creations.

The company is also adding support for using public Instagram accounts in AI-generated images. Users can tag Instagram profiles while creating invitations, collaborative concepts, or personalized graphics, while Instagram users can disable this feature through Settings > Sharing and Reuse on the mobile app.

WhatsApp gets Muse Image integration

Meta said Muse Image also enables image generation directly within Meta AI chats on WhatsApp using conversational prompts.
