Lumio today announced the launch of its public beta for Project Neo, a new software-driven content discovery experience built on the company’s TLDR App.
Designed to eliminate the friction of modern streaming navigation, Project Neo allows users to search for and play content on their Lumio devices by sending plain-language text or media messages through messaging applications like WhatsApp and Instagram.
Instead of using traditional hardware remotes, navigating multiple separate streaming apps, or manually searching across different platforms, users can interact with Project Neo using conversational language. The system currently supports inputs in English, Hindi, and Hinglish, and automatically surfaces and queues the requested media directly onto the television screen.

Shifting Focus from Hardware to Intent-Based Software
The release of Project Neo marks a strategic pivot for Lumio, emphasizing software and user experience over traditional hardware specifications. As the smart TV industry increasingly converges on uniform hardware standards—such as larger displays, faster processors, and higher refresh rates—Lumio is focusing its engineering efforts on the cross-platform gap between where users typically discover content (social media feeds and chat conversations) and where they consume it (the living room television).
According to Lumio, the system operates around existing digital behaviors:
- Natural Language Queries: Users can search for content by specifying titles, actors, directors, genres, moods, languages, or vague plot descriptions.
- Contextual Recommendations: For open-ended queries—such as users stating they are bored or asking for suggestions—the system surfaces trending titles aggregated across all supported streaming platforms.
- Visual Discovery via Instagram: The integration with Instagram allows users to share multimedia content, including Reels, posts, posters, or screenshots of a film or show, directly with the Project Neo interface. The software analyzes the image or video to identify the corresponding title and transfers it to the connected display.
Availability and Compatibility
The Project Neo public beta is accessible starting today through an update on the Google PlayStore.
The feature is currently exclusive to the Lumio ecosystem, supported natively on Lumio Vision TVs and Lumio Arc Projectors via the TLDR App.
Step-by-step onboarding instructions for beta access, along with the full, real-time list of supported features and platform integrations, have been made available on the official portal at neo.lumiolabs.ai.

A colleague mentions a show over lunch, a friend sends a reel of the latest trailer, your wife texts you things to watch on WhatsApp. Then you sit down in front of the TV and it’s all forgotten, so you’re doomed to scroll. That gap between where we discover content and where we actually watch it is exactly what Neo closes. WhatsApp and Instagram are where India already types, chats, and shares, so that’s where Neo lives too. You just say what you’re in the mood for, or forward the reel, and it’s on your screen. People shouldn’t have to learn a new app to watch TV better. That, to us, is what ‘Tech that Sparks Joy’ means: removing the friction between people and the content they actually want to watch.

For too long, the television industry has defined progress through hardware specifications. Those things matter, but they don’t solve the everyday problem of finding something worth watching. Project Neo is proof that the biggest upgrade to the TV experience can come from software that understands people better. With this public beta, we’re inviting our users across India to help shape what the future of television discovery should feel like.
