Instagram Carousel posts get multiple captions feature

Instagram has introduced a new capability for carousel posts, allowing creators to add unique captions to individual slides within a single post. The “Multiple Captions on a Carousel” feature aims to provide users with more flexibility in how they structure narratives and share content on the platform.

How the Feature Works

The implementation of the new tool is integrated directly into the standard post-creation workflow:

  1. Select Media: Users select multiple photos or videos to create a traditional carousel post.
  2. Access Caption Settings: On the final sharing screen, users tap the primary caption area.
  3. Toggle the Option: Users can toggle on the “Multiple Captions” setting, which enables text input fields for each specific slide in the carousel.

Impact on Content Delivery

Prior to this update, a single caption applied to the entire carousel, requiring creators to either write longer blocks of text or rely entirely on visual cues to explain sequential images.

With this change, the platform enables targeted context. As viewers swipe through a carousel, the accompanying text updates dynamically to match the specific image or video on screen.

Instagram indicates that this functionality is designed to ensure audiences receive the relevant context at the exact moment they interact with each piece of media, potentially changing how step-by-step guides, episodic stories, and product showcases are presented on the application.
