HONOR Robot Phone’s Cinematic Video showcased at 28th Shanghai International Film Festival

HONOR has officially debuted its new “Robot Phone” at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), marking the device’s first professional imaging appearance. Serving as the official mobile photography and videography partner for this year’s festival, HONOR utilized the event to demonstrate the smartphone’s capabilities in high-end filmmaking and mobile videography.

As part of its debut, the Robot Phone was used in collaboration with ELLEMEN to capture cinematic video portraits of the SIFF jury members. The footage, released on HONOR’s official channels, highlights the device’s ability to replicate the tonal gradations and color transitions typically associated with traditional film photography, aiming to bridge the gap between consumer mobile devices and professional cinema equipment.

Hardware Innovation: Built-In Titanium Gimbal

A core feature demonstrated at the festival is the device’s built-in stabilization system. The HONOR Robot Phone integrates what the company states is the industry’s smallest titanium alloy gimbal.

  • Mechanical Stabilization: Driven by high-performance motors, the gimbal system rises dynamically from the chassis during use.
  • Image Quality Retention: By relying on physical, mechanical stabilization rather than traditional Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), the device avoids the software-driven image cropping and resolution loss often found in standard smartphone video capture.
  • AI Integration: The hardware works in tandem with AI algorithms designed for intelligent object tracking and automated camera movements, intended to streamline the filmmaking process for independent creators.

Strategic Partnership with ARRI

Notably, the Robot Phone is the inaugural product to feature the outcomes of HONOR’s strategic technological partnership with ARRI, a leading global designer and manufacturer of professional motion picture camera equipment. This collaboration focuses on bringing cinematic color science and imaging standards to the mobile form factor.

Following preview showcases stretching from Cannes to Shanghai, HONOR aims to position the Robot Phone as a tool that extends professional visual expression standards to everyday content creators and modern filmmakers alike.
