Amazon India expands Health and Insurance benefits for 90,000 delivery associates

Amazon India has announced an expansion of its health and insurance benefits, extending coverage to approximately 90,000 delivery associates across its last-mile operations network. This rollout is part of a recently announced investment of over ₹2,800 crore (approximately $300 million) directed toward associate safety, health, and financial well-being, as well as the scaling of its logistics network.

This specific funding falls under Amazon’s broader commitment to invest more than $35 billion in India by 2030, which focuses on business expansion, AI-driven digitization, export growth, and job creation across both core and quick commerce sectors.

Expanded Medical and Financial Coverage

The updated benefits package is designed to address both immediate medical expenses and income loss resulting from temporary or permanent disabilities. Key updates to the coverage include:

  • Mediclaim: Coverage increased up to ₹1.5 lakh.
  • Outpatient Department (OPD): Expenses covered up to ₹10,000.
  • Group Personal Accident: Coverage expanded up to ₹10 lakh.
  • Family Inclusion: Benefits cover the associate and up to three family members annually.
  • Consultations: Includes unlimited multilingual virtual doctor consultations and two free in-person OPD visits per family each year.
  • Additional Healthcare Support: Discounts on diagnostics, pharmacy, dental, and eye care, alongside preventive health and fitness tools.

To complement these financial benefits, Amazon has partnered with a third-party insurer to organize nationwide health camps at its delivery stations. These camps, which began in March across six metro and Tier II cities, focus on proactive health screening and heat-risk identification. Services provided include eye examinations, dental check-ups, BMI assessments, and general physician consultations. Associates can access these camps using a government-issued identity proof.

Infrastructure and Emergency Support

Amazon has outlined several initiatives aimed at improving the physical safety and daily working conditions of its operations workforce:

  • Project Ashray: This initiative provides dedicated rest points for delivery associates across high-footfall areas, accessible to workers regardless of the company they deliver for. The centers offer air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, washrooms, charging stations, and first-aid kits. Amazon plans to expand its current network of 100 Ashray centers to 250 in 2026, with 50 new centers slated to open by the end of May.
  • Ambulance and Emergency Services: Delivery associates have access to 24/7 emergency support, including no-cost basic and advanced life support ambulance services across more than 730 cities in partnership with Dial 4242.
  • Preventive Safety Measures: The company utilizes preventive wellness campaigns, mandatory pre-trip vehicle checks, and real-time weather alerts to trigger interventions like defensive driving training during monsoons or extra rest breaks during extreme heat.
  • Road Safety Training: Coinciding with National Road Safety Month, Amazon conducted a nationwide training program for delivery associates, partners, and truck drivers. The curriculum covered helmet and seatbelt compliance, speed management, distraction prevention, and emergency preparedness.
Education and Workplace Policies

In addition to health and safety, Amazon reported ongoing investments in educational support and inclusive workplace policies:

  • Pratidhi Scholarship: A program providing financial support for the higher education of children of delivery associates and partners, enabling them to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
  • Inclusive Policies: The company provides menstrual leave, onsite medical and rest facilities, and sanitary pad dispensing machines at its fulfillment centers.
  • Family and Career Support: Daycare facilities are available for working mothers, and the company offers upskilling opportunities for associates seeking internal career progression.

Salim Memon, Director – Operations, Amazon India, said:

As we continue to invest in our operations network, infrastructure, and frontline workforce across India, the safety and wellbeing of our delivery associates remain a top priority. We have expanded insurance coverage across OPD, hospitalization, and accident benefits to provide more comprehensive support, and are also rolling out nationwide health camps offering free check-ups and preventive care. These initiatives are part of our recent ₹2,800 crore investment to further strengthen associate well-being and scale our operations infrastructure across the country.
