Yatra has announced a strategic collaboration with Google Cloud. The partnership is focused on accelerating Yatra’s AI-driven transformation across both personal and corporate travel sectors.
By integrating the multimodal capabilities of Google Gemini on Vertex AI, Yatra aims to deploy a new generation of intelligent travel solutions to streamline booking processes, optimize expense management, and improve the overall travel experience.
Enhanced Customer Interaction with DIYA AI Agents
Central to this technological integration is the deployment of Yatra’s DIYA series of AI bots. Powered by Gemini’s natural language processing capabilities, DIYA functions as an advanced AI agent for both consumer and enterprise clients.
The system is designed to handle complex customer queries and execute multiple sequential tasks. It guides users through the entire travel lifecycle, from initial itinerary planning to finalizing bookings. Key technical implementations include:
- Function Calling: The DIYA system utilizes Function Calling to execute specific workflows, such as flight searches or reservation cancellations, by interacting directly with Yatra’s internal APIs in real-time.
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG): By employing RAG technology, DIYA anchors its conversational responses in Yatra’s proprietary travel databases and FAQs. This allows the AI to provide reliable information tailored to specific itineraries and corporate travel policies.
Upgrading Expense Management with RECAP
In addition to booking services, Yatra is updating its expense management platform, RECAP, utilizing Gemini’s advanced vision analytics and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capabilities.
The integration introduces several functional upgrades designed to reduce manual data entry and improve accuracy for enterprise customers:
- Automated receipt scanning and data extraction.
- The ability to log expenses using voice commands.
Data Security and Strategic Outlook
The collaboration prioritizes enterprise-grade security protocols provided by Google Cloud. Yatra has confirmed that its proprietary enterprise data remains protected within this ecosystem and will not be utilized to train public AI models.
Through this partnership, Yatra Online is advancing its broader data science roadmap, which encompasses data analytics, machine learning, and agentic AI. The company is positioning the integration as a step toward delivering highly integrated and intelligent travel and expense management solutions at scale.
Commenting on the partnership, Siddhartha Gupta, CEO, Yatra Online, said:
AI is fundamentally reshaping how travel is planned, booked and managed. Our collaboration with Google Cloud allows us to reimagine the entire travel lifecycle. With DIYA, we are enabling a more intuitive, conversational booking experience, while RECAP simplifies expense management in a way that is intelligent and scalable. This is a significant step towards building a truly integrated travel ecosystem for both enterprises and consumers.
Sashi Sreedharan, Managing Director, Google Cloud India, commented:
Our work with Yatra is about moving beyond basic automation to true agentic assistance for travelers across India. By integrating Gemini’s reasoning capabilities, Yatra is enabling AI agents that don’t just provide information but actively execute complex workflows—from real-time booking adjustments to automated expense filing. This collaboration allows Google Cloud’s AI to remove the administrative friction from the travel lifecycle, helping businesses and consumers focus more on their travel goals.
