Lava expands band 28 support across 4G and 5G smartphones

Lava has confirmed the integration of Band 28 support across its smartphone lineup. The update encompasses the brand’s AGNI, Play, Bold, Yuva, Blaze, and SHARK series. This move is intended to align the company’s device ecosystem with India’s evolving network infrastructure, focusing on improved connectivity and digital inclusivity.

Significance of the 700 MHz Spectrum

The integration focuses on the 700 MHz spectrum (Band 28). This low-frequency band is distinct for its propagation characteristics, allowing signals to travel longer distances compared to higher frequency bands.

The implementation of Band 28 is expected to improve mobile connectivity in rural and regional areas where signal penetration can be challenging. By utilizing this spectrum, the devices aim to facilitate more consistent 4G services in underserved locations.

Technical Enhancements

To support the deployment of Band 28, Lava has reported several technical modifications to its hardware and software architecture. These updates are designed to ensure compatibility and efficiency within the new network standards.

  • Hardware Modifications: The devices now incorporate specific RF components, including Multi-Mode Power Amplifiers (MMPA) and Front-End Modules (FEM). Additionally, high-isolation antennas, antenna active tuners, and adjustments to the motherboard design have been implemented.
  • Software Optimization: The company has calibrated processors, modems, and RF components to manage connectivity across varying signal strengths (low, mid, and high) in both urban and rural environments.
  • Power Management: Algorithms regarding power consumption have been adjusted to maintain energy efficiency while utilizing the new band.
  • Carrier Aggregation: Modifications have been made to support Carrier Aggregation on Band 28, allowing for data transmission across multiple frequency blocks.
