Tesla expands India infrastructure with first charging station in Gurugram

Following the recent inauguration of the Tesla Center in Gurugram, the electric vehicle manufacturer has announced the opening of its first dedicated Charging Station in the city. Located at the DLF Horizon Center, the new facility marks a continuation of Tesla’s efforts to establish a charging network within the region.

Infrastructure and Charging Speeds

The new charging site is situated in the Surface Parking Area of the Horizon Center. It is designed to cater to different charging requirements through a mix of high-speed and standard charging units. The facility includes:

  • 4 V4 Superchargers: These units offer peak charging speeds of 250 kW. According to Tesla, a Model Y vehicle can recover up to 275 km of range in approximately 15 minutes using this technology.
  • 3 Destination Chargers: These provide a charging speed of 11 kW, intended for longer stops.

Tesla states that the network operates with 99.95% uptime, utilizing a “Plug In, Charge and Go” system designed to minimize friction for vehicle owners.

Digital Integration

The charging process is managed via the Tesla app, which provides an integrated ecosystem for owners. Key functionalities of the app include:

  • Navigation to charging destinations.
  • Vehicle battery preheating prior to arrival for optimal charging speed.
  • Real-time monitoring of stall availability and charging progress.
  • Payment processing and completion notifications.
Network Expansion in India

With the commissioning of the DLF Horizon Center site, Tesla now operates three charging stations across India. The network currently comprises a total of 12 Superchargers and 10 Destination Chargers.

Current Operational Charging Stations:

City Location Superchargers Destination Chargers
Gurugram One Horizon 4 3
Delhi Worldmark 3 4 3
Mumbai One BKC 4 4
Total 12 10
Consumer Engagement and Model Y Availability

To introduce the technology to the public, Tesla is hosting interactive workshops at the new Horizon Center station from December 17th to December 21st. These sessions aim to demonstrate the operation of both Superchargers and Destination Chargers to local residents.

Tesla Model Y is available for purchase starting from INR 59,89,000. The company also provides home charging support to ensure connectivity for owners at their residences.

Operational Centers

In addition to the charging infrastructure, Tesla maintains the following service and experience centers:

  • Tesla Center Gurugram: Orchid Business Park, Sector 48 (10:00 am to 8:00 pm).
  • Tesla Experience Center Delhi: Aerocity, Worldmark 3 (10:30 am to 7:30 pm).
