Apple Fitness+ to finally launch in India on December 15

Apple has announced that its subscription-based wellness service, Apple Fitness+, will officially launch in India on December 15 after it was introduced back in 2020. This rollout is part of the service’s largest expansion to date, five years after its initial debut, bringing the platform to a total of 49 countries and regions worldwide.

Here is an overview of the service features, content, and pricing details for the Indian market.

Core Features and Integration

Apple Fitness+ offers 12 distinct workout types, including Strength, HIIT, Yoga, Pilates, Dance, Cycling, Kickboxing, and Meditation. Session durations range from five to 45 minutes and are accessible across iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.

The service leans heavily on ecosystem integration. While workouts can be viewed on a screen, users can utilize an Apple Watch or AirPods Pro 3 to view personal metrics directly on the display. These metrics include heart rate, calories burned, and progress on Activity Rings. The interface also includes a “Burn Bar,” which allows users to compare their physical effort against anonymized data from others who have completed the same workout.

Personalization and Music

To assist users in maintaining a routine, Fitness+ includes Custom Plans. This feature automatically generates a personalized workout and meditation schedule based on user preferences regarding activity types, trainers, session duration, and music.

Regarding audio, the service is integrated with Apple Music. Coinciding with this expansion, Apple is introducing a new K-Pop music genre available across all workout types, featuring global hits. This joins existing genres such as Upbeat Anthems, Hip-Hop/R&B, and Latin Grooves.

Additional Content Formats

Beyond standard studio workouts, the platform includes several specialized formats:

  • Time to Walk: An audio experience designed for iPhone and Apple Watch that encourages walking. It features stories, photos, and music from influential figures. The latest episode features Formula 1® driver Yuki Tsunoda. Past guests include Jane Fonda, Simu Liu, and Shawn Mendes.
  • Artist Spotlight: A series where entire workout playlists are dedicated to a single artist. The library includes tracks from Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, BTS, Coldplay, and others.
  • Collections: Curated series of workouts designed to help users achieve specific goals, such as “Run Your First 5K,” “Pilates for More Than Your Core,” and “No Shoes Workouts.”
  • Meditation: Users can access 12 unique meditation themes, such as Calm, Sleep, and Sound, aimed at mindfulness and recharging.
Pricing and Availability in India

Starting December 15, Apple Fitness+ will be available in India at the following price points:

  • Monthly Subscription: INR 149
  • Annual Subscription: INR 999

The subscription can be shared with up to five other family members via Family Sharing.
