Valve Corporation, the company behind the Steam gaming platform, has introduced three new devices — the Steam Frame VR headset, the next-generation Steam Controller, and the Steam Machine console.
This launch marks Valve’s latest expansion into gaming hardware after the Steam Deck (2021) and Steam Deck OLED (2023). According to the company, all three devices run SteamOS and are optimized for gaming in VR, console, and PC formats, designed to extend the Steam library experience across multiple platforms.
Steam Frame: Wireless VR Headset for Steam Gaming
The Steam Frame is a streaming-first, wireless VR headset built for both VR and non-VR games. It can either stream games from a PC or run them locally with a Snapdragon 8 Series processor and 16GB RAM. Running on SteamOS, it supports suspend/resume, cloud saves, and native app installations for standalone use.
Valve has introduced Foveated Streaming, an eye-tracking feature that improves image quality in the region where the user is looking while reducing bandwidth usage over ten times. A 6GHz dual-radio adapter provides a dedicated link for visuals/audio and a separate connection for Wi-Fi, ensuring low-latency performance.

Key Features:
- 2160 × 2160 LCD panels per eye with 72–144Hz refresh rates
- Thin, lightweight pancake lenses for comfort and large eye box
- Four high-resolution monochrome tracking cameras with IR LEDs
- Integrated stereo speakers providing spatial audio
- Steam Frame Controllers supporting VR and non-VR inputs with magnetic thumbsticks, capacitive finger tracking, ABXY buttons, D-pad, triggers, and bumpers
- Standalone support for Android apps via Steam Frame Developer Kit
The Steam Frame headset pairs seamlessly with the Steam Controller and can stream from PC, laptop, Steam Deck, or Steam Machine. Valve has launched a Steam Frame Developer Kit program to support content optimization and testing.
