YouTube lets users set daily time limit for Shorts scrolling

YouTube has introduced a new feature that allows users to set a daily time limit for scrolling the Shorts feed on mobile devices. The update aims to help users manage how they spend their time on YouTube and tailor their viewing experience to their preferences.

How the Shorts Time Limit Works

Users can set and adjust a daily scrolling limit for Shorts within the Settings menu. Once the selected time limit is reached, YouTube will display a dismissible prompt, indicating that scrolling on the Shorts feed is paused for the rest of the day.

According to the company, this feature supports its efforts to promote responsible viewing habits and make time management tools more accessible across the platform.

The Shorts feed limit joins YouTube’s current time management features, such as Bedtime Reminders and Take a Break prompts, which help users monitor and balance their time spent on the app.

Upcoming Parental Controls

YouTube also announced plans to expand parental controls later this year to include the Shorts feed limit. This enhancement will allow parents to activate the limit and make it non-dismissible for kids and teens using supervised accounts, giving families greater control over daily screen time.

Availability

The Shorts daily time limit feature will begin rolling out to mobile users on October 22, 2025, and will expand to more users in the following weeks.

Shorts are an integral part of the YouTube experience. Setting a scrolling time limit on the Shorts feed enables this exploration while helping users be more mindful about their viewing habits and manage their time effectively.
